View Full Version : CAM's and REMAP

despite the hundreds of threads and posts i have read on cams etc i am still unsure. I have been looking at these cams:
http://www.kamracing.co.uk/manufacturers-543/newman-cams-761/newman-ph1-road-camshafts-852/newman-ph1-road-cam-citroen-saxo-vtr-roller-rocker-1450.html
And this is the closest remap place to me, not sure if its good or not.

Opinions and anything else i may need. also improvements?

i heard the PH3 are a bit jerky on idle, and wont the power be higher in the REV range with PH3s? i prefare the lower down power say from 3000RPM - 5000RPM

it says this on the PH3s on kam racing.
"Aftermarket induction such as throttlebodies or bike carbs will be required"
so i need TBs?

you dont have to have them no.

and personally i wouldnt go to that place either 4 your remap:
Saxo 1.6 8v 90 135 95 143 5 8
taken from the website 90bhp original. 95 optimised so 5bhp gain only...

ph1 is very mild cam and imo not worth it
ph3 is a good mid range cam and will improve the whole rev range
the jerky idle isnt bad (give me a few weeks and ill get a vid of an unmapped car)
mapping will even the idle out too

kam said the best choice for the vtr is this cam http://www.kamracing.co.uk/manufacturers-543/catcams-676/catcams-camshafts-659/catcams-4901202-fast-road-camshaft-saxo-vtr-furio-silvertop-650.html which i went for but it isnt the cheapest, and you need uprated intake manifold. and im getting mine mapped up at chipwizards.

it says this on the PH3s on kam racing.
"Aftermarket induction such as throttlebodies or bike carbs will be required"
so i need TBs?
you dont have to use them, like what the other guys said its not that bad on idle, you would get used to it anyway, but its worth the lumpy idle for the extra gain, as the ph1 like alex said isnt really worth it
and you dont have to use tb's you would get away with using a s1 rallye inlet, as this is bigger than the vtr inlet, this cam is pretty much the same as one of the catcams and that says you could use the s1 inlet or tb's or carbs, so im pressuming it would be the same for this

hi mate as said go for the ph3s, much better i have just bought them, awaiting arrival and then i can fit, idle is bad but with the s1 rallye inlet and a remap should sort out idle and give you alot better power and response, should be fitiing my s1 at weekend and hopefulls cam to if i can get a headgasket kit quick enough, i'll post a vid from running before map for you as i beleive you have a 2000 model just like me yeah?
damn chris beat me to it lol

so for PH3s i need either S1 inlet, carbs, TBs? i dont like the sound of that id rather just drop them in then remap.
P.S - wherabouts is chipwizards? and what about PH2s??
evans1089

mark2s cant have the inlet, and its only recommened that you have such tb's if you want the true maximum output...
JamesR

so if i just get PH3s and a remap will it run properley? wand what sort of gains? i am at roughly 100bhp now, so i was hoping for over 120bhp?

maybe a little more.. you got full decat system? enclosed filter?
I have port and polished throttle body too which helps a little
JamesR
11th February 2009, 13:18
well my filter is open, ( like induction noise ) but has a heat shield and ducting. also by the time i will be getting the cams and remap i will have the centre section to my exhaust, and a SS manifold, along with my Ported and polished TB, so maybe 125bhp? or more?
also is mine the roller rocker? it has the silvertop engine.
just a bit worried about the fact it says they cant be run on a standard injection system.
"The Newmans PH3 camshaft is not suitable for VTR engines running the standard injection system. Aftermarket induction such as throttlebodies or bike carbs will be required."

av changed my mind, i dont like the sound of PH3s, they seem to extreme.
what about PH2s?
This seems like a good compromise.

ph3 will be fine
i ran ph3s on standard injection in my vts (it still says you need uprated stuff)
its fine
an extreme cam is a ph5

as said, the fueling from the injectors will be sorted when remap comes.

im fairly certain that ph3s will run fine in vtr, also your can run s1 in mk2s but only mk2s with the 90 bhp engine, you dont have to get the rallye inlet but most will say youl get more performance and a better idle as the vtr inlet is poop( also get a much better induction roar with the s1 being aluminium and alot bigger than the vtrs plastic inlet

whereabouts are chip wizards exactly?

doesnt really explain where there located. and also:
PH3s
Chipwizards remap
Pipercross induction ( heat shilded and ducted )
Ported and polished TB
Cat back sportex exhaust system
SS manifold
What am i looking at power wise? i can guess myself but just wasnt another oppinion.

PH1 is a very mild cam and will run without a remap.
PH3 is quite lairy and will need a remap to smooth the idle out etc.
