I just bought a vtr with a vts engine on a vtr box. she's r/r at 145bhp and I've been told to expect problems with the gearbox. how can I prevent it from breaking or should I get a vts box fitted?

box is the same vtr /vts just diferent diff ratio and i ran a vts with 157.4 bhp with a 1.3 rallye box in no probs
u do need a vts box in it as the vtr box is a very long box slow on 0-100 mph

ok. I'll not go and splash out on a new box just yet but I will try and keep the one I have in good nick. what is the best oil to put in?

ur car will be lots faster with a vts box in , that is why when shitroen made the vts they put a vts box in and not a vtr box mate

Sounds like the car will be faster with an R box, higher top end but quicker (faster) acceleration.
Personally I'd keep it the way it is. 2nd gear to the limit is fun

right i will try again here is a list of the fastest box for acceleration.
1.3 s1 rallye
1.4xsi
vts
vtr
so if u want fast acceleration u want a 1.3 rallye box and so on down the list
as for top end yes the vtr box maybe geared for over 160 mph with a vts engine on the limit at 7800 rpm but will take far to long to get to that speed

The VTR/VTS boxes are the same, they both have bigger stronger diffs than the lower models, but they have different ratio's as stated..They will take abuse from a standard engine and lightly tuned engines with no problems..The biggest killer of the gearboxes is oil starvation and lack of maintainence..
You want to use Total 75w-80 B.V gear oil..Its fully synthetic and is what Citroen recommend..I always use the recommended parts and lubricants on my car, that way your sure to get the most life out of your car..At the end of the day, Citroen know best i guess..they made it..lol
Also the Total Quartz engine oils and gearbox oils are whats used in the WRC and Super 1600 rally car's too, aswell as the road car's..

wrong mate
the vts is a faster accelerating box
who needs top end anyway
you cant do 140mph everywere so acceleration is more fun
get a vts box mate

I do like epic fails...
how do you get better acceleration when the gearbox gives a higher top end, thus showing its a long box??? ;)

yep, after acceleration I meant to type "on the S"
You all get a humbug for your perceptiveness :)

it wont accelerate faster though
a vts box will be faster to 60

andy was saying the vtr is a long ratio'd box and therefore a slower 0-60 in comparison to the vts gear box..shitroen ftw

they are all as strong as eachother really.
the smaller models have smaller diffs, but to kill a gearbox its usually due to driving like a fucking idiot.
