Just wondering what people use for their vtses do they use cheap or premium fuel?

now that petrols cheaper i use premium, there was a thing on topgear about it, it gives you like 5 extra bhp, depending on the car, not to mention its better for the car. well worth it

tesco 99 oct all the way

shell v power although i have used tescos 99 and dont hink it lasts as long imo shell v power all the way

my car hates the 99 octane stuuf, makes it run really badly :(
and i doubt that higher octane fuel can add 5bhp...

Whatever's cheapest in the VTR and the Missus' car.
BP Ultimate in the VTS

its difficult to tell the difference most times but tesco, bp and shell are all good fuels. I just avoid the 95 oct esp at the supermarkers aka morrisons fuel is awful

15th February 2009, 18:51
tesco fuel isnt all that good, thats why its cheaper than bp and shell. i put some in my rs turbo and it made it slower compared to runing it on bp or shell. there fuel did make a difference in power to my turbo'd car

V-power all the way, car just feels better and the fuel seems to last longer aswel with it, maybe its just me though lol

ive been running mine on cheap fuel since i got my vts but wondering if it will help going to premium in the everyday running, i.e. engine will run a bit smoother. My mates ERST he was using cheap fuel and it ran like a complete s***er
JamesR
15th February 2009, 19:27
as i said before mine ran worse when i regualrly used higher octane stuff.

V-power
williamsvts
15th February 2009, 20:48
v-power, because the car was mapped on it.
ukgaz
15th February 2009, 20:57
I don't know if mine was mapped by the previous user, but from what we can tell it had been modified and reverted back to original spec. So could of been mapped, whats the best way to find out?

Started using V-Power as it's cheaper but used to be 95RON stuff. Managed 45Mpg town driving in the VTS on 95RON so shall if V-Power can top that! Car seems to run a bit smoother and pull slightly better on V-Power, probs all just a placebo effect mind.

Shell v power,in me mk2 vts.................:p:y:

15th February 2009, 22:51
thought it didnt make a difference unless you had an adaptable ecu or something... unless youve had it mapped to a certain octane. whats the standard ecu designed around?
AlexB
15th February 2009, 22:53
bp ultimate (as its pretty close to my house)
Karl
15th February 2009, 23:55
Tesco 99 or Shell 99 (vPower).
Was mapped to 99 so if anything less goes in, it runs shit.

16th February 2009, 00:24
Can standard saxo ECU's actually make any use of the higher octane stuff?
LUK3H
16th February 2009, 01:20
v power or total excillium, depends where i am when i need to fill up, id say the main difference is a fewmore miles from premium fuel and seems to run better

17th February 2009, 19:39
Mine used to run a bit rough and felt like it had a really weak missfire sumtimes then i ran a full tank of V-Power through it and now it runs much better. Some people say that you shouldnt run all the time on a high octane fuel and its best to run a full tank after 3-4 tanks of 95ron. Mine ran better on it so im not going back

It's really quite funny how many of you think your cars are actually faster from the premium fuel. Read a fairly extensive report on it a while ago, basically unless you're putting out 400+ bhp (on average) it makes no difference atall, even then it was about 0.2 of a second quicker to 60. The idea that's it's making a difference has to be worth the extra pennies tho ;)

Tesco's Super, as the car wasn't mapped on it. ;) :ponder:

Isn't VPower 98RON?

Isn't this the most expensive fuel there is? I ran this for AGES, but since moved to Reading and I'm close to Tesco's. The wee pug likes the 99 stuff. :D

Never knew Tesco did 99 RON..
Would Tesco 99 RON be better than Shell V Power and BP Ultimate then?
Luke
17th February 2009, 21:38
I use Shell Diesel Extra.
Won't use Supermarket Fuel now.
Toad
17th February 2009, 21:38
The RON value doesn't make it better. Try it, and see how your engine runs with it. Not much else to say really, without going into a long and indepth explanation. :)
Luke
17th February 2009, 21:42
I do find Shell lasts that little bit longer over supermarket fuels.
As it's got more additives in it.

Aways use premium, much better on MPG! ;)
minxymears
18th February 2009, 00:26
TESCO 99 Ron too, triple Clubcard points atm too! lol Wouldnt put anything less in tbh, might try a few months running on BP ultimate why price is low to see

has premium been prooven to give u better mph?
kraigleeder
18th February 2009, 00:48
tescos 99 premium
seems to do the trick :D
daivtr
18th February 2009, 02:05
it does nothing to mph and certainly doesent give extra bhp
Barry123
18th February 2009, 09:02

99RON mate :)

v-power and bp-ultimate are hands down better in terms of quality and additives, but yeah they both have the same RON

bp is only 97ron iirc, says on the pump handle.

Yeah, they do a 102 one now, not sure if you can get it up North yet

naa that's only limited to petrol stations in wealthy areas like cheshire and near high profile circuits.
and at £2 a litre it's not worth touching for a saxo.
leeroybrown
18th February 2009, 09:18
According to there site there is only about 10 places in the Uk that sell it.
£2 a litre, I'd rather piss in my tank then pay that!

Perhaps the old Shell premium fuel (Optimax?) was 98 RON.
My4tt91
18th February 2009, 13:25
bp ultimate alot better than that super market stuff

Ill have to disagree with you there matey, ok ur right with the performance, wont improve it at all, but if ur not raping the tits off it, there is a noticeable differnence in the MPG! ;)

I use normal. Don't see much point in using the more expensive stuff. Yeah it might give you a few more miles but you pay more so i doubt the difference is noticable in my car.
peebee
18th February 2009, 17:21
Well in my VTR £30 of normal will last me from monday till friday, £30's worth of premium will last into the next week!
Might not work for you, but works for me! :y:

tesco fuel is the same as bp because bp supply it!!!

theres hardly any shell garages about now though int there? I dont know of any near me.
Iced
22nd February 2009, 23:28
tesco use ethanol the boost the octane rating which is actually worse for your engine i heard (may of been top gear) think V power came out on top ..... and thats all i use , no problems, i did use regular on one occasion and i got like 30 less miles than V power.
if there aint a shell around thoe then i settle for BP ultimate
Juz

i actually found tesco 99 better than v-power and optimax so always used to use it in the past.
lately i've started just started using standard 95 ron again for 3 or 4 fillups then 1 fillup with 99 ron and alternating like that.
