Im thinking about putting an S lump in my 2002 vtr once i have a bit of cash spare. Could anyone tell me what i would need and rough costs of these parts.
I have a mechanic in the family that will carrying out all the work.
Im aware that this question gets asked almost everyday so i done a search before posting, however, i couldnt find a definitive list of parts needed specifically for an 02 vtr.

Any hints or tips on doing the conversion appreciated too.

cheers in advance

also, how much would i get for my vtr lump with 65k FSH?

would a 2002 gti engine be the same?

yea the gti and vts engines are exactly the same. my mate has a gti engine for sale from a 1998 with everything you will need, 250.

106 gti loom doesnt fit Saxo's

106 looms dont plug directly into saxo, even more so with it being a '98 106 and yours an '02 saxo.

get these parts from a 3 plugged ecu vts:

engine
engine loom
ecu (preferably unlocked)
top mount (ecu side)
throttle cable
top rad hose

if ecu isnt locked you will need key and immobiliser from same car the ecu is from

vts gearbox would also be better for it.

i thought a 3 plug saxo vts loom would be the same as a 3 plug 106 gti loom

de4n0
18th February 2009, 21:29
surelly the loom would be right from a saxo with the engine being the same, wouldnt the saxo vts loom plug into the gti engine? other than a gti loom pluging into the car. get what i mean.

williamsvts

the engine loom from a 106 doesnt mate up with a saxo interior loom properly, and vice versa

Nick_106
18th February 2009, 21:50
what are the diffrences then? i would of thought thewy would be the same loom throughout!

Nick_106
18th February 2009, 21:50
i mean 3 plug saxo loom to 3 plug 106 loom

williamsvts
18th February 2009, 21:52
yes, a engine loom from a 3plug 106, will not plug into the interior loom on a saxo.
the wiring arrangement on the plugs is different.

even if they were from the same age? gutted, better phone an auto leccy in the morning then

lol, ive posted about 3 times saying they wont mate up.

I keep saying this in repeated threads but it seems to fall on deaf ears.

I have physically had the same year 106 gti loom and a vts loom and the 106 gti loom was definately NOT plug and play, would need some serious re-wiring to make it fit !!

Would be easier to keep an eye out for a vts loom.

Not a definate but Driveshafts possibly, also Manifold remember if the engine doesnt come with one as they are different stud patterns.

what excactly is an unlocked ecu?
the engine mounts are not the same?

iirc correctly gti engine have more sensors than the vts i.e air con.. n doesnt plug n play as said above :y:

106 gti doesnt have air-con in th UK iirc.

send your ECU to bluehawk electronics to get it unlocked.

your looking a about £500 all in for everything if you shop around mate. just get all from a mk2 vts then you ave no problems and no messy rewiring. its literally just plug in & play (if you have an unlocked vts ecu that is)

lol, ive done a few of these conversions so im not guessing what parts you need. if you needed driveshafts i would of said.

an unlocked ecu is an ecu that will work with no immobiliser.

my list of parts on page 1 IS WHAT YOU NEED.

and yes, 8v and 16v top engine mount is different, you can make 8v mount fit but you'll be 1 bolt short.
