Hi Guys, I've got a problem with my 51 VTS. The battery light sometimes comes on whilst driving. Ive had the alternator checked and its charging great (more than it should if anything), battery is good and my fan belt is the right tension. The battery light tends to come on when I accelerate hard or am up to speed on the motorway. Sometimes it will go off on its own, it however always goes off when i turn the ignition off and back on again.

Oh, and i've notyet actually had a flat battery from it?

Any ideas? Ta

lose wires or knackered plug on the alternator this is the excact same problem i had an it turned out to be the two pin plug connector...

lift your bonnet when its dark. The alternator wires get burnt by the exhaust manifold down to the bare wire.

When its dark you should see a spark going from the wires across to the alternator.

Get some insulation tape on them

Could be a loose connection on the back of the starter motor.

could be your crank shaft pulley...mine went...the pulley consists of an outer metal ring and an inner ring...then the is a gay bit of rubber in the middle. In my experience this is simply designed to break, costs £130 from shitroen my cars been off and on the road for months while i have time to sort this.

Start your car up, lift the bonnet and check for movement in the big wheel at the bottle of the fan belt cycle, should wobble side to side...or just check for play when engine is not running. If it is the crankshaft pulley i suggest buying a replacement from GMC motorsport its a 1 piece alloy replacement, so it wont go again, and the best bit is they sell em for £70 plus delivery...went through 2 fant belts, and bought another battery before i found out what it was...also broke on me taking out my adjuster/tensioner pulley above it so had to replace that.

THIS IS DEFO the first thing i wud check!!!

ive just bought another alternator too as mines died on me, but throughout the time i had the problem the alternator WAS working fine...so dont know if it was knackered by the crankshaft pulley flying off. PM me if u need some more help mate

could also just be a fucked alternator and not the wiring

my alternator chewed itself to pieces on the 106 and i had a dodgy battery light all the time
