Been thinking about nitrous as its perfect to get better quarter times but it can still be a daily drive running approx 150 without the nitrous. But can it be run so not to shred engines with like a 50 bhp shot? Would forged internals be needed?

stay away from dry kits as there trouble
a wizard of nos wet kit is the best one, all you need to do is get a colder set of plugs.
i wouldnt go more than 50bhp on a single jet without a controler
there is also a kit in the for sale section

You never had me - you never had your car... Granny shiftin' not double clutchin' like you should. You're lucky that hundred shot of NOS didn't blow the welds on the intake! You almost had me?
Now, me and the mad scientist got to rip apart the block... and replace the piston rings you fried.
Ask any racer. Any real racer. It don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning.

is there much point in it?
in the sense it's alot of money to blow on something that'll save .5 a second on a 1/4 mile...
even then you say you managed that time with NO2.

you can get kits that add upto 300bhp cant you? too dangerous IMO 75-100bhp is the maximum i would go if i had Nitrous Oxide.

when they fitted the jag on top gear with nos it gave a 500 bhp boost, think you could only have the system active for like 2 seconds at a time or it would blow your engine

take more than 0.5 secs off, i've seen vts' standard apart from nos running in the 13s.

If you want 150+ shot i suggest you double metal gaskets to decrease compression ratio, colder plugs, progressive controller, uprated clutch.

u know how fast my vts ran at york best time was 14.5 at 94mph and that was on 14inch wheels and standard brakes with toyo r888 tyres and as much as it pains me to say it that was the fastest it ever ran even cammed and a 106 rallye box it was no faster on the 1/4 mile ,same goes for rickyp we never got any faster no matter what we did , there fore the next step up would have to be nos  but i sold it like a cock ha ha

Having a nitrous oxide system installed in your car is not illegal. Akamoto provide these kits to our customers for the use of off road events and shows that are hosted on private land. However Injecting nitrous oxide into your engine in whilst driving on a public road can not really be commented on as we can not find any law against this but at the same time we cant find one that permits it. So we recommend keeping the bottle turned off until you’re in a suitable surrounding to inject nitrous oxide, e.g. drag strip.

the only 2 dangers when useing nitrous are
1 someone fitting it who doesnt know what there doing
2 someone useing it it incorrectly and useing jets that are to big
it is perfectly legal to use on the road aslong as you are coverd by your insurance, adrian flux cover it for road use
on a single jet kit without a controler i wouldnt go more than 50bhp
i have 200bhp jets in my turbo vtr but that is direct port and controled
JamesR

what RPM do you use it at? say if i am idling at 1000rpm or so, then as i accelerate off the line using it is that OK?
tweeqd
24th February 2009, 20:32
if the kit is set up properly then it will only work with full throttle
RPM will vary and you can use the second button to turn it on at any RPM its a matter of testing to see when you have grip for it
i couldnt use it untill i was past 4k in at least 2nd in my ZX 16v or it would just spin the wheels

24th February 2009, 20:53
what times did u run mate in zx16v with nos
tweeqd
24th February 2009, 22:16
never timed it but made a hell of a difference with a 50 bhp jet
im currently putting a kit on my spare 16v lump in the ax untill i get my new turbo 8v lump built up and will be timeing that at the pod this year

if any of you have seen the high octane movies they put nitrous on a old skyline and keep upping the nos until the engine blows....
quite funny you might find it on youtube.
