VTR vs VTS??? [Archive] - Saxperience

Hello to all!

Recently joined Saxperience and think the website is spot on!

I currently have an "02" reg VTR and am looking into trading it in for a VTS.
I dont know if there is much difference in the performance of the two cars having not had a shot of a VTS.

I dont know if i would be wasting my money, or is the extra 20Bhp all the diffrence.

As i have only had the car for 6 months im not sure if its totally worth while.

You'll feel a hell of a lot of difference! But if the insurance is going to cost quite a bit more, I'd hang onto the VTR until the premium drops.

Big dif between the vtr and the vts they both put a smile on your face but the vts is by fart the best alround, as long as cost not an issue then go for it but not the cheapest of cars to fix if it goes wrong.

Depends how much the insurance is and if your willing to pay for the extra. But yeah it will feel faster, and if you plan on doing any future engine tuning it is the best to start off with.

i have a cammed vtr and a standard vts. VTS is much quicker, mainly because its stripped and the vtr hasnt been mapped yet lol

get a vts mate they stand out and dont see many of them, any bodykit saxo i see are all vtr.

But yeah it will feel faster, and if you plan on doing any future engine tuning it is the best to start off with.

VTR isn't a bad car and if insurance is a killer on a VTS, stick with your VTR and save some cheddar towards a VTS when the insurance is cheaper.

On the whole the VTS is the one to go for though :bored:

VTS all the way, had a vtr at 17 and then got the VTS at 18

<3 the VTS... quite amazing how they perform after a few modifications considering theyre only a 1.6 16v but insurance/tax/fuel is abit of a downside but hey ho if uv got money why not ... i dont mean all of your money i mean enough to comfortably run a VTS lol ... theyre the same to run/maintain as a VTR though

my VTS soon may be for sale its been pondering in my mind for a very long time lol wenther to sell it or not as iv had no problems with it but ah wel lol

depends how much ur willing to lose tbh but imo a breathing vtr against a standard vts having driven both felt quite similair although in reality there was a difference, i know this because i actually raced my old vtr haha but modded vts cant beat the fun in that.

vts all the way, and who hooo i can afford the ridiculous insurance!!!! but well worth it, the only thing i found is that the vtr could take a bit more of a hammering than the s but more power = more engine strain i guess. and owh yeah forget them gay pumas, birds car init?

VTS dude, iv got a vtr cus it was a freebie but id driven my friends vts before a few times and it feel ace, plus like most the guys will tell u, the mods that u put in a vtr will do so much more in a vts. Insurance is stupid but hey thats life, if its a bit pricey for you just save up, by the time you've found a gud one anyway ull probley have the money lol

what do you need abs for? its a substitute for low ability drivers imo. you can stop much quicker without it.

also, i'm another for the vts. Drive a vtr and a vts back to back and you will realise how much difference there really is.

Just had a look on the internet and the 1.7 Racing Puma is around the same as a VTS.
VTS looks a whole lot nicer aswell!

vts are good even i like them. but the other side is to keep the "r" for a couple of years then get a clio cup or something else like it maybe something turbo'd.

my vts actually is less than my vtr to run overall.

when you consider the Clio 1*2 group 16 insurance and £245 tax (as of April 2010) then the VTS isnt all that great?? VTS - Insurance group 14, and £310 a year tax (as of April 2010).

Dont get me wrong, i would have one...just some facts above ;)

Ive owned both, used to have a vtr, now have a vts and they are both really good fun! I thoroughly enjoyed my vtr (got it at 17). They are quite diffrerent to drive aswel imo...the way the power is delivered in each etc. But choosing between the two i have to say i love my vts more. If you can afford it get one you wont look back.

We're talking about Saxos which are registered after 1st of March 2001.

From April 2010

VTR - £155
VTS - £245

£90 difference.

i had never owned or driven a saxo before i bought my VTS, had a shot of my mates vtr the other night and for lack of a better word, its shite compared to a S..

p.s.. i dont see how insurance can be THAT bad on a vts, im 19 with 3 points declared and a write off. 800quid fully comp with my old dear as a 2nd driver..

depends what you're comparing them to...

if you're comparing saxo's to saxo's then the VTS is da bestest.

If you comparing saxo's against ferrari's then again, saxo is best.

there is better cars out there.
vauxhalls are better for big power because of the ease of engine conversions imo
i dont really want a newish car as they are more expensive to fix when they break.

i think the saxo is a good alround car, easy to work on and got lots of potential imo.

The other thing that I don't get is people swear by the handling of the Saxo and how it can keep up with some real hot hatches in the twisties on track yet I didn't notice any of that.

Williams you have to take me for a spin in your VTS one day and show me what its made of, and maybe I'll change my mind then lolz :P

depends what suspension the cars have you've been in.
the saxo is better for very twisty roads imo as it has quick turn in.
172's/182's will be just as good imo but i like the saxo better.

All the ones I've been to see had standard suspension setup.

I've been in my mates EP3 and there is no way a Saxo can keep up with that, the handling is immense even though his Civic is standard.

Exactly, but in the EP3 you feel more confident in throwing it about.

They are very simple cars and that's what I like about them - they have everything you need really... there's no stuff for stuff's sake. Definitely not ready for a civilised german barge yet.

My tax was £145 for a year - VTR

I read it was £310 on a VTS by April 2010 :S

I've had 1 VTR and I am now on my 2nd VTS, I would never go back to a VTR 'cos the S is in a completely different league, do it if you can afford it. It's more costly to insure and slightly more to tax but I managed 33 mpg in mine driving with quite a heavy right foot so it's not too bad to run. Engine mods will feel much more worthwhile on the S too than the R.

I was comparing a VTR/VTS to my old banger.

Every time I go to test drive either of them (its been more than 10 of them now) I regret going in the first place and as soon as I jump back in my car I fall in love with it again even though its a piece of shit.

The last one I went to see on Monday was priced at £2500 and it was the shit, and yet my £500 banger felt much better.

Ive just bought a VTS after never owning a Saxo, my friends have owned them in the past but it was years ago when I was still at college.

I love it, mines a bit poorly but still doesnt feel amazingly fast to me so I wouldnt bother with a VTR if you can afford to run a VTS, its just 7 insurance groups higher is quite alot!

I also own a Cooper S (mk2 turbo, not that whiney supercharger shit) and the handling is comparable to be fair, not quite as grippy but you can point it just as comfortably, now its lowered anyway, tis a bit spongey standard.

abs isn't needed, its a 'driver aid'. a good driver never depends on abs.

My VTS is standard under the bonnet at the mo and iv raced standard and modded VTR's and the difference is massive.
By the way Saxo VTS 0-60 7.6
Racing Puma 0-60 7.8
Thats slower in my eyes

Lets be fair.... if insurance is not an issue, why would anyone pick the slower car of two identical looking cars?

It comes down to cash and how much you are happy giving away to insurance people.

Saying that, a VTR isnt slow and is perfectly capable of giving you the "going through a hedge backwards" thrills that a VTS can give. Only slower lol.

I've played with many 106 GTI's and VTS's in my standard MK2 VTR..Obviously they are quicker, but when i say quicker i'm talking about 10-15 car lengths upto 100+ mph..Not the huge difference people may think..

But, when you go in a VTS, as they rev more and have quite an aggressive power curve they fell a hell of alot quicker..

Also, given the choice between the two car's, a MK2 VTR and a MK2 VTS i would have the VTR any time..

Purely because i prefer VTR wheels and the interior kicks the VTS's ass tbh..The fact that VTR's are cheaper to insure etc is just a bonus for me..

Also i like to keep my car's pretty original so changing interiors and wheels over wouldnt be an option..

vtrs are quick for what they are, 1.6 8v but the only reason for this is because they dont weigh feck all. i mean 90hp is now.

As as for a vts again they weigh nowt (tad more then vtr but due to extra airbag ect) but the extra 8v and overhead cam (i think ) makes them alot more pokier. 120hp isnt bad for a 990kg car. Also the plus to them is the handling. they are onwe of the best handeling cars iv driven just behind the epic clio cup!

Ive had a VTR for a year now put a full exahust syatem on and a decent induction kit and it proper shifted. But Ive just bought a standard vts and it is so much quicker. The VTRs are a good car though its like everyones saying if you can afford a VTS then get one you'll not be disapointed mate.
