POWER vs Clutch/Gearbox

Hi guys,

just a quick one, wanna know how much power can the standard VTS clutch and gearbox handle? A friend had a VTS running with 421, decat, chip/remap use to rev off the clock, cda and VTS use to eat clutches and gearboxes for fun, he got a paddle clutch fitted in the end. Most heavy clutch iv ever driven with lol

if you can kill a clutch on a near standard engine you need to learn how to drive tbh.

The valeo unit is a very good clutch, where I know of a few people with high spec engines using them, some have even gone back to them after fitting 'high end' clutches

sorry going to show my lack of knowledge here is the valeo the standard clutch on the VTS?

he use to rag the fuck out of the car and track days were often.

yes it is a standard unit
as ryan proves in his vtr they can take up to about 200bhp no worries

how about the gearbox guys?

again the gearbox isnt as weak as alot of people say.

They are not as strong as some granted, but you need to drive like a pleb to go through them.

Standing launches etc.. are what kill clutches and boxes mostly.

Clutch wise, it's the torque that kills them, they are good to about 150lb/ft or thereabouts, no doubt would take more.

Gearbox wise, it's just the diff that's weak. The input shaft bearings are crap too but that's more mileage related than power, same with the synchro rings, they are crap but again mileage related rather than power.

ive given a saxo 1.1 with a weaker gearbox absloute mullering for a good 4000miles and it was fine
i found i broke a gear linkage before i broke a box
