Can anyone explain what the "difference" is between torque & bhp?. I was trying to explain it to a mate today but couldn't simplify it enough for him to understand it lol :P

torque is the turning force created by the engine, power is the rate at which to torque is produced.
to convert torque into power:
power(bhp) = (torque(lbft)*rpm)/5252
hence why on any real power graph the pwer and torque lines will cross at 5252 rpm

a rough guestimation of acceleration can be considered to be proportional to torque per tonne.
a rough guestimation of top speed can be considered through the consideration of BHP and total resistence together.
