Nice car, btw if your harnesses are gonna be crossde at the back then please don't in a crash it will break your ribs with ease. It will pull the inside edge of each harness strap before the rest of the strap. Just a little tip

LOL, you realise sam's spent more time on track than you have on your driving lessons so far right?

the 'problem' with people crossing harnesses at the back is that it puts a lot of stress on the seat inbetween the two harness strap holes.

It could cause problems on a standard car seat. But honestly, do you think a harness will snap a proper FIA approved bucket?

seriously, don't beleive everything you hear...

btw sam. my dad think's your XSI is cool :D

I guess they're not brand spanking. Didn't thing cobra did the suzuka gt any more just the pro?

piggy123
13th July 2010, 14:10
well i bought a pair of carbon fibre shells which came from cobra suzuka's, one GT and one normal sized one

unfortunately neither of them were finished.....
the normal one had no shoulder harness holes
http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee279/westieSP/P7091077.jpg

and the GT one had all the holes cut but were rough and required a file down
http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee279/westieSP/P7091082.jpg

so got them both sorted then bonded some captive nuts on
one they had dried i fit the side mounts and bolted them to the subframe :)
then with my drivers seat i fit my 6 point Lukes harness and again did the same to the passenger seat except only a lowly 4 point :(
this was the result :D
http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee279/westieSP/12072010111.jpg

while the weather was poor yesterday i thought i would use the seat to a proper use :D
http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee279/westieSP/12072010109.jpg

after a lot of issue's with it we managed to get the S1 inlet sorted to a nice result
shame it was pitted with some mild rust soo took some fine emery cloth.

before:

http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee279/westieSP/06072010104.jpg

and im currently sorting out my oil cooler
below are the brackets i made and the picture of what im intending to get it to look like
http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee279/westieSP/06072010101.jpg

still plenty of work to do but im enjoying the progress im making with it and should be all ready for when JP gets back
thanks for looking

a guy who used to work for cobra got laid off and they couldn't pay him redundancy money so they said he could take 20 unfinished seats of his choice and i stumble upon them on ebay for 80 each so rang him up and offered him 150 for the pair... the rest is history :D

35mm ish on the front.... no idea though as there fualkner 180lb springs
rear is 50mm but will be picked up 10mm more than likely for when i go to the 'ring' as felt a little unbalanced at the rear... moving the battery to the back should help a little :)

wickedness... once you have the bars on it will feel much better!

Battery and filter look tidy in there actualy :D

Thinking about it the engine really cant get much better without going cams/bodies/standalone management and all that crazy expensive stuff. It must feel pretty nippy for a 1.4 now? i'd just keep it as it is now i think and keep making the chassis lighter where possible! 4 pots would be good as well once the rear bars have been sorted ;)

You could get some s1 morettes and give the bmc a nice direct cold air feed... that would be good!

Looks like a good project mate. I just can't understand why you have gone so hardcore with the pure naked carbon buckets which are obviously to save a lot of weight but you've left the front carpet in and roof lining by the looks of it. lol sorry not trying to be a prick.

sounds impressive..... i have had something like 8 or 9 xsi's now in various forms and the 1.4 xsi engine has got to be the best for handling and compromise plus cheaper tax :y:

mine was an old one might be on here (or moaners) was running cbr bike carbs and few other bits pulled very well.....heard it was around the 120bhp when i bought it but never confirmed it, raced my friends gti on a private track of course lol and his only pulled on me around 70 or 80.....

what gearbox are you running? ive just converted mine to 16v (again) but running a 1.6 xsi gearbox which will be new for me, found the 1.4 xsi gearbox too short for motorway miles, and the vts box wasnt quite enough....so hopefully got best of both!

yh thats what im hoping :) tbh i havent checked the code on it, could be anything felt about right before it was removed no shaft play or anything either....

ive got a 1.4 xsi gearbox but the 1st-2nd syncro has gone! and a gti box with a broken case really tempted to rebuild them into one!

well if you ever need rid of your morettes you know who to call :fcuk:

And I found the issue to be the brake disc failing :o

Stupid thing is the other side was fine :s
Think they got so dam hot that it caused it to crack as excluding the crack the disc was highly worn but still plenty of life left in them and working really well prior to the above.

I used to cook rear brakes too. After a couple of days race instruction pushing the car harder than i would of alone the stock compensator had too go. I couldnt get it set light enough so had to go for an inline bias.
Sorted it a treat and alot more stable in full attack mode... Also the way it works isnt overly ideal on circuits like lydden where a bit of g is pulled at the bottom of the hill as its got a bit of a hump. Means uncontrolked levels of rear braking.the brakes can bite harder than you think. It was epic light rear end though
