right i have a mk1 vtr, but i am running a 1.3 rallye top end with the 1.6 bottom end, i just wanted to know how much valve to piston clearence i will have?

the head has been skimmed and running the 1.5mm mls headgasket from gmc

i just want to know so i can decide which cam to run, as ive spoke to matt at QEP and he says with the cam ive chosen its a 50/50 as to wether it would hit or not, so just wondered what you guys think

it is this cam from catcams
http://www.kamracing.co.uk/manufacturers-543/catcams-676/catcams-camshafts-659/catcams-4900645-race-rally-profile-for-the-106-rallye-1-4-xsi-401.html

will that be ok to run with my set up?

if not there is an alternative cam, its catcam 4900646
http://www.catcams.co.uk/acatalog/Citroen_Peugeot_TU_8v_large.html

this has pretty much same spec as the 1st cam, but has slightly less lift at tdc which means it will definatly run ok with no valve to piston contact, it is at the bottom of the page in the table

but QEP have said that the 645 would be the better cam to go for if i have clearence

so just wondering if someone could help me out with clearences and wether the catcam 645 will fit my engine and wont give me any clearence issues

thanks guys

chris

it would be close to be honest for the sake of your engine stick with the lower lift cam. the last thing you want is uming and aring for a few weeks getting it fitted and bang 8 bent valves

yer thats what im thinking, and since i just replaced the valves on the rallye head and it cost me 60quid for the valves and then like 55 for them to be fitted aswell as headskim etc, but would have to do alll that again

hmmm its a tough one lol

i think i may just go for the safe option really thanks for advice mate

id just hate for you to drive for that extra 4-7bhp and ruin your engine. hardly seems worth it.

yer thats what im thinking and the costs of it if that was to happen

it would mean having to buy the lower lift cam, then the new valves etc and refiting, then selling the other cam making a loss there

would probs end up being a good 200 to 300, just for the sake of pushing for that extra little bit and failing

thanks for help mate

i think ill go for the 646 so i have that little bit extra clearence and know that it will run fine, without worrying about valve to piston contact lol

it sure is, ive learnt loads in the last few months and ive now been helping phoenixsaxo with his cam project

but yer i think i have reasearched majority of what i need to, to do my project, im juts reading up on things like TBs and boost now as i will be looking into one of them in the future i think, but since it will be a track car it will probably be TBs
