I was reading up on how the rallye boys modify there 8v engines on rr, and came across a guy running a 16v bottom end with the 8v head to raise his compression. I was just wanting to know if it would be possible to use a 16v bottom end with the 98 bhp head on my vtr? :p

this is the link where i read this from and would like someone with a better understanding of this to explain it to me please or explain what the guy has done on the rr to achieve a 16v bottom end.

Tbh may as well just run the who 16v setup for the hassle of setting it all up...
Also didnt think that it was possible myself..

And i think its been asked before

If you read the link he used 16v pistons and crank, not just bolted the 8v head on a 16v bottome end.

Its all worded a bit random at times.

Some posts it states the block HAS been used mind..

And that he feels the only difference between blocks is the second oil way, however the main issue he has had is the pistons being flat need valve cut outs.

Others it seems like the internals have all been changed etc..

Yep reading it more in depth, the issue is the pistons. So you cant just bolt them on due to the flat dome (for HC) causing valve/piston sexy ytime

cheers for the replies folks, i had the same problem at first as the dude made out asthough he just bolted everything together. So has this guy taking the 16v pistons and crank and put them in the 8v bottom end replacing the dished 8v pistons?

fossie - he said that he spent 60 quid on the 16v bottom end and 130 quid for the valve cut outs on the 16v pistons. It was his alternative to the eqivilent forged goodies which cost a hell of alot more.

by the sounds of the deeper reading.

He has used the OE 16v bottom end bolted on, however the pistons have been modified to fit the 8v valves.
