View Full Version : A little blow in the mani

Hi guys.

On my Supersprint mani, there's two clips (possibly called Milkalor?) where the 2 pipes go into 1... Anyway, these little clips blow. Is there a special silicone type sealant I can run around them, as I've used exhaust putty several times, but it just dries up and flakes away, probably due to the heat of the manifold. So I need something that's designed to take the great amount of heat... Is there is such a thing?

Cheers in advance.

you could try some instant gasket. halfords sell it they do ones that can cope with high temperature.

worth a shot mate.

Snap, have the same problem on mine Toadus.

Matt at Pug1off said its very bad design, he actually said the Racelands are welded properly in comparison. Can it not be welded?

I had a look in Halfrauds t'other day mate, and I wasn't sure whether or not there was one which was good for that sort of heat. Mani's get REALLY hot though...

I'm using a blue Loctite one of my exhaust join... Works very well. Might be the same one. I didn't want to put it on the mani in case it couldn't handle it and I started a fire! :panic:

ye will be the same one. a doubt it would go on fire. but dont quote me on that one lol.

am sure you can use it on engine parts so mani should be ok.

Welding it would be best. I replaced the bolts using some 10mm (from memory) hex heads and made up some ally spacers to move the head of the bolt away from the mani. Lets you get more leaverage on the bolts as those allen key jobbies round straight away.

That's a good point. I've got to take the mani off at some point to re-wrap it, so i might take it down to a machine shop and get them to go to town on it with a blowtourch! ;) I know a stainless steel welders not too far away.. :y:

I need to get it welded up/ceramic coated

Just get it welded. I sold my supersprint because it pissed me off resealing it all the time, and quite frankly it's not worth the hassle of getting it welded! Nice manifold when it works though!

As it's got to come off anyways... I'll have it welded. :)

While we're on topic of manifolds! A friend of mine said it might not be such a good idea taking the manifold off myself, as the studs can round off in the head, or get seized etc. He said take it to a garage and let them deal with it. What do you think? I've looked at the studs, and some of them look like a bitch to get to!

They will be fine bud - just spray some penetrating oil on before hand. If the mani has been on a while, you'll probably find it pulls the studs out the head rather than screw the nut off the stud.

Just clean them up/ replace them and use two nuts on one stud to screw them back into the head.
