Hello there, I am in desperate need of some advice/help. I have a 98 saxo 1.1iSX which was running beautifully but unfortunately had an oil leak which turned out to be the head gasket. After ahving that fixed 3 weeks ago the heater ceased to work which was rectified by flushing nasty gunk out of the heating matrix. But now the cars idle is 300 and tends to stall at traffic lights and even at speed when dropping from 5th to 4th gear which is a little concerning.
The clutch also now rattles like mad when the car is idle, this noise is intermittent but stops when the clutch is in.
As I know very little about cars, various mechanics keep tryin to mug me by saying, hmmm new clutch love, hmmm
new gear box etc etc
Any help or advice is much appreciated.
Cheers
Amy

i dont think its the thrust bearing buddy.i had the thrust bearing go on a car i had. a 1.2 punto
when the thrust bearing goes the cluch wont work at all. youll have the clutch pushed right in and the car will still drive. go to a well known branch of garages and explain e.g. citroen. they have a reputation to keep so wont try and con you unlike dodgey one off garages.

Well guys thankyou for all ur responses but fortunatelt u were all wrong! it turned out to be when i had the head gasket changed for some reason the garage decided to tamper with my idle without using the correct computer equipment, this then caused my revs to be xtra low at idling causing the entire engine to resonante at a speed which shook my clutch to death when out. To correct the problem without interfering with the cars computer again all it took was moving the pin on the accellarator cable shortening it a little. Hey presto, no rattle no cutting out etc.
U were right about avoiding non citroen garages as the guys who did head gasket didnt have any need to touch the idle but they happened to be the ones that diagnosed the rattle as clutch splintering n in need of replacement!
Thanks again for your responses tho.
Have only had car 4 months and was thinking i had bought a nail!
So have gone from one very unhappy saxo driver to one very happy saxo driver smileys/smiley17.gif
