Hi

Ive just bought a standard exhaust from a lad who breaks Saxos.
Apparently off a VTS but he couldnt be sure.

Anyway, just removed the Powerflow system from my VTR and went to fit the standard centre and backbox..

One of the exhaust hangers doesnt line-up, its miles out.
Anyway, we grinded it off and welded it back on further up but its not ideal as the exhaust bangs and rattles..

Just wondered if there was a difference between either PH1 and PH2 exhaust systems or VTR and VTS systems, the mounting nearest the centre box lined up perfect, and so did the one nearest the passenger side rear wheel but the one nearest the spare wheel didnt fit.

123- Tried searching mate, came up with nothing.

Could it be from a Furio? Do they have the same tail pipe?

Do you mean one of the brackets on the silencer doesn't line up? Under my saxo... theres one hanging bracket on one side, and two on the other (only one is used) is it possible it was in the right place to start with and you tried to hang it on the wrong bracket? lol.

What about stronger rubbers or cable ties on existing ones, may stop the banging. Is it the backbox or the centre pipe thats banging?

Backbox is banging.

Its only one of the hangers on the backbox that doesnt line up, theres one on each side and one on the centre pipe.

There is only one mounting each side not two like Rich mentioned.

Adam- stronger rubbers wouldnt make any difference as the mounting isnt in the right place for it to line up, im thinking i have the wrong backbox for my car. i just want to know if theres a difference between spec / years of Saxo

Thanks

You completly sure you're not missing one? Theres defiantly 2 on one side of mine, spent many an hour stood under it... If everything on the setup is standard there is no reason for it not to fit, especially considering it was fitted to another car perfectly fine...

If you re-welded the bracket it should be in the 'correct place' now, right? You can get the exhaust to sit in lots and lots of slightly different positions by turning the backbox before you clamp it on, or by fitting slightly shorter or longer hanging rubbers, depends what you've got knocking about to try on it really.

Cant see where id be missing a mounting?
There is only one hanger each side of the backbox and the same on the underside of the car.
Should there be another hanger on the backbox?

Thanks

There's only 1 bracket on each side of the backbox. On the underside of the car there's one on one side, and two on the other. I think it's the one nearer the O/S that has 2. Obv if you slipped it onto the wrong ne it would be a shit fitment. Wouldn't be able to tell you if all saxo's including yours has the two on one side, but thought it might be a simple solution to your problem.

I had the same problem but you should be able to unbolt the bracket on the car and move it along. there will be holes furthere along that you can bolt it onto. you will need to unclip the threads and move them along as well so that you can bolt the bracket secrurley to the car. Hope that makes sence its not to hard to do mate once you get your head round it. Once youve done this it shoud all line up.

There is a difference with the mark 1 and mark 2 vts exhausts

The middle section is shorter on a mrk2 as the cat is longer on a 01 upwards

Stevo - I saw these holes further down but the hanger on the car seemed spot welded to the chassis. couldnt see any screws or bolts in it anywhere.
Could you shed anymore light on this mate?

Leeroy - The centre section seems to line up fine mate, dont think ive got the wrong one of them.

Cheers guys

Mine was just bolted on, you could always go to the scrapys and take one of another saxo that has the hanger bolted on and then eather weld it on yours or get the bolts and threads. When they put your other exahust on they probley couldn't be assed bolting it so they just put some spoet weld on the hanger bracket. hope this helps pal.

I'm pretty sure the MK2 VTS comes with two sets of hangers on the right hand side of the car - both at different angles. My VTR only has one on that side.

Il have to have another look at it, was your bolted in from the back - did you have to remove the exhaust heatshield to get at it or did you unbold it from the spare wheel side?
Mine all looks original and painted etc.. doesnt look like someones attacked it!
Cheers buddy

This was on my old vtr but just had a look on my vts and all you would have to do is bend the heat shield back to get access and then un bolt it and move it along (thats if it isnt welded in) there is a bolt going in verticaly from under the car and one going horizotal from the spare wheel side if that makes any sence:panic:lol

try your local scrapys mate and just get another hanger bracket and fit it so it lines up with the one on your back box. hopefully that will do the job:y:
