where the back box meets the mid box, i cant seem to get a good seal. tried firegum and gungum but still no help.
if i get the two welded together will i have to replace both if one blows?
i have a twin exit exhaust so dont really want to raplace the backbox if the mid box fails

Clean it all up back to nice shiny metal, slap loads of exhaust assembly paste on it (not that gungum crap) put a new clamp on, and wipe away the excess paste. Leave it ticking over for half hour or so to set properly.

You realise you've posted this in 2 sections? lol

tried that mate but the condensation washes the gungum away.

take it to a cheap exhaust centre they should fix it for about 25 quid which by the time you mess about with more gungum it would have cost you that anyway

'Don't use gungum' ??? Use assembly paste, there is a difference. If thats the problem, take it out for a nice long drive until the condensation that's sat in the exhaust has gone. Wait until it's cool enough to work with and then do it properly.... back to clean metal, use decent assembly paste, and use a decent clamp (the 2 piece type not the single) and do it up nice n tight. Then leave it on tickover to settle it all in, this is the exact same way I've done it with literally 100's of cars, never had a leak yet!

Welding a flange type joint like that isn't a great idea. Even with a decent weld it can crack if you hit one of the many pot holes we enjoy! That and when/if it needs to be changed again you'll be under the car just a few inches from the fuel filter with a grinder, granted 99% of the time nothing would come of it, but is it worth the risk?

Recon you're onto a winner there, just turn it into a slip-on type fitment 10/10 :y:

And take it off the car before you cut or weld the pipes!!! saves setting the car a light!!:fcuk: seen this happen on mate cars.......:wall:

Oops, tbh it is quite hard to set fire to a car through grinding or welding with even the smallest bit of common sense.... A couple years back my m8 used to have an old skool beetle, he did some wiring to it, where I don't know... and it went up as he was driving it :clapping:

the only time ive not been able to get a good seal.

I put loads of paste on and pushed joints together
then put loads round the joint and finally put the clamp on (full of paste again)

I then heathed it with a heat gun (hair dryer would be ok) for about 5 min. Then started the car and left idleing for abit, do not rev it tho the presshure tends to find a hole.

the best paste will come in a tube that you put in masket gun, the stuff in tooth paste tubes is crap.

Go to Citroen and get a new exhaust clamp..No paste etc, just clamp it all up..I had the same problem, got a new clamp from Citroen (they use a unique type) and it doesnt blow at all now..

most motor factors do it, if you tell them you want the type to go in a gun and get a gun from pound shop lol.

Soz for the slow reply, you get it from motor factors etc in a big tube like you would use in a masket gun as said. Off the top of my head I think the stuff we use at work is made by timax, which probs comes from partco.

Sounds mysterious! I take it it's not the single bolt, bit of a c*nt to get on single piece clamp with one bolt, or the one with 2 bolts in two halves because these aren't citroen specific. Fancy describing it? I might buy a few....

Its the single bolt type..You cant really re-use them in my experience..Get a new one and if you fit it correctly it will be fine..

At the end of the day, Saxo's didnt come from the factory with exhausts covered in paste..lol..

Just buy new full exhaust system, magnex or supersprint........
