View Full Version : Exhaust blowing = engine stalling?

Fitted Magnex on Saturday, bargain did it all my self etc etc. Then started it up to hear it blowing, alot, around the manifold > exhaust. Too late to get to the Motorfactors.

I think the gasket has fucked it. To be honest I didn't actually know about it until I spoke to a mate.

I need a new gasket obviously, where and what size, its a 2" bore magnex, raceland manifold.

However, I had to drive the car to work today, and it kept idling horribly and stalling during gear changes in slow traffic. Is this related?

Im pretty certian an exhaust blow wont cause those running problems, never seen of heard of it before.

Not sure about the gasket, some systems use a standard one where as others (my supersprint for one) use a slightly larger one, 52mm internal diameter iirc. Both will be available off the shelf at any motorfactors.

That is what I thought! I haven't touched anything else though.

Might get back under it tonight and see if the Lambda has been knocked at all.

Yeah could be lambda sensor, usually that will put the engine management light up though.

EML is up anyway as I unplugged the 2nd

Alright just took the car out round the block quickly, its fucked.

It chugs very loudly at low revs, once you get to 3k it changes to just exhaust noise.

Help :(

yep if it's badly blowing it'll cause the car to run poopykins.

Phew. That makes me slightly relieved.

What size gasket is it? 48mm?

if it's running a raceland mani then just use the standard Citroen exhaust fitting kit. Is about £16 from Citroen. Contains the Firering, two springs, two bolts, two screws. Remove the old tatty firering and lob the other on, bosh it together and run it for a little while (might be shitty for the first couple of miles) but let the ecu have enough time to sort things out.

Hang on.. what's it running precisely like at cruise? Acceleration? and Idle?

Does it go over 4k rpm?

Jorge-

I used a new fitting kit when I fitted the Ashley system.. all new springs etc, just no gasket.

I will pop motorfactors and see if they are any more helpful today. The joys of DIY jobs.

Its not in limp home mode if thats what you are getting at..

It drives fine. Well as far as it sounding very loud and chugging at low RPM, I took it out yesterday and it was okay uptil about 6k, just could hear the blowing. Warm and cold.

it be blowing then. If the lambda has gone and if the ECU realises it's actually gone then it'll limp mode it. If it hasn't realised it's gone, then your engine will be running in world of doo-doo... Get that blow patched up and see how she fairs afterwards.

I'd ruddy hope the lambda hasn't gone. It had a new one fitted 6 weeks ago after it just decided to fail one morning.

You tried unplugging your battery for a few Min's to reset the ecu, mines running like shite since i fitted my janspeed, i know i don't drive yet but i need to move it for other people in family to get car in garage etc and it will struggle to even get up my drive since i fitted it, but when i reset my ecu it will urn fine for a while :S

Could give that a go, when I fitted it, the EML light went off. Bizzare as nothing had changed. But then next time I started it up it was back there waiting for me

nope not on shitreon!!

good old french wiring, my lamdba was total broken in 2!! and it still did not put the EML!

well i dnt think it would make it stall, it would not run right, all depends on how big the hole is? or gap?

it might help tho, could find it something like, MAP sensor gone or any number of sensor failing which is making it cut out.

Well, one lambda is disconnected and the other was spanking new 6 weeks ago..

When I say cutout, I mean the revs drop, drop, then dies.

could still be lamdba sensor, sound like what mine did, it was the lamdba sensor, maybe get a fualt diagnosis done. :y:

Just been to every motorspares shop within a 10 mile radius who were open til 7pm to find not 1 had a gasket in stock. What a crock of shite.

I am finding someone who will either take me there, or go for me tomorrow. Its like a 30minute walk from office, and I only get an hour lunch.
