my mate paid 2k for his saxo vts, mint condition, absolutely mint, had it a month and slammed it into a deep puddle and f*cked the engine. hes sold it to me cheap and ive got a 106 gti engine and ive stuck it in.
fits like a glove everythings near enough the same, but at the moment i need to replace the altenator belt and the top coolant hose doesnt match the same for both engines as the vts had 2 smaller pipes going off to the oil filter.
thing is ive tried turning it over and all sounds good but not starting, this is with battery fully charged and the hose missing, but i dont see why it wouldnt start.
would the ecu/immoboliser cause problems with me doing a straight swap with the engine?

would the plate off the vts engine behind the oil filter fit onto the gti engine?

Hahaha lol...you serious?
Like Alix said: you need to change the looms. I think the 106 GTi loom is different to the VTS one!

ive read alot of people used the vts loom with a gti engine? aint had a problem with that in that respect as all of the plugs have been wired up, but like i said i dont see why it aint firing up but its turning over so just seems like an immobiliser issue to me
the ecu is the original one from the vts and wiring loom all ive done is transplanted the engines.

few questions then
is the fuel pump running?
is the starter turning?
for the first try and just run a live to it temporariy and run the car
if it works wire in a switched live
if the starters not turning it could be a bad earth from the gearbox to the loom or even to the car itself
or a bum starter/solenoid

got spark??
imobiliser cuts the fuel pump so its definatly an engine/wiring issue

if you dont have the top coolant hose connected then it wont start as there will be no compression in the engine. any one feel free to correct me but i think that could be the answer but i dont know much about mechanics.

rad hoses in now way effect the compression
you can start the car breifly with no coolant system at all if you wish but itll get hot quick lol

Have you connected the fuel lines correctly? Double check the white and green ones have been 'clicked' in. Have you check the inertia switch? Press it down. Is the fuel pump definitely priming (a whirring noise when you turn the key one click) .
