IMO sit back and think how much your going to realistically spend - then what else you could do with the money re: getting more power.
i.e. turbo 1.4 or TB'd 16v ...............
Fair play - a turbo 1.4 would be cool!!
Considering the VTS one is around 2.5k i would guess the same. They design theirs as "bolt-ons" so you'll probably get around 30hp extra

being realistic.
75bhp standard, an extra 30-40bhp = 105-115 bhp + a shed load more torque. around £3k probs.
OR vts conversion with cams and TB's ?
If your doing it for outright pace then maybe look at brakes and good suspension kit. If you want the dump valve sound then go for it. If you want it for speed then might be a cheaper way by buying an already turbo'd engine if one comes up?

Could you not plonk a 16v in yours?
If you want to be different then go for it, would be unique for sure! Maybe no one does it for a reason?
I'm not trying to put you off just trying to stop you looking back in 6 months time and being like, damn, I can't beleive I've just spent £3k and still getting done by standard vts's + they'll be more reliable.
I don't know the torque a 1.4 turbo would put out - so might in fact be quicker than a vts.
Just think about it before you jump in. Maybe get a go in a cammed/TB'd vts to see.

IMO it's not your best option. £3k would buy you an awesome spec saxo!!
cammed vts engine
polybushes all round
bilstein group n's with faulkner springs
4 pots on the front
1.4xsi box
^^ That'd be a lot quicker I would imagine than a turbo 1.4 plus would be a lot safer and more reliable. It'd lose the 1.4 turbo on the bends easily.
then you'd have change left over for a trackday in ireland.
Cittuning are in the UK iirc.......................... so you'd have to come over here to get it fitted anyway. Plus i can imagine the best mappers are over here?

guys i wouldnt rule out a turbo 1.4 8v, a chap called lex has done one with r5 turbo and all the usual bits and dta ecu and when mapped it had over 180bhp and similar torque, now thats enough to see away the majority of tb'd vts's.

I have no doubt 180bhp is achievable - but bang for your buck? 180 out of a 1.4?

yep mate, he also done it on a pretty good budget..
it is easily doable, it would be much easier taking a project like boost if you know how to spanner.
and yes gav, i can well imagine how quick it was with s1 rallye box in it.
