new engine not running right

i put a vtr engine in my furio yesterday. started up fine and drives but its not running right. it started strugling to tick over and i drove it about 50meters then stoped and the engine just cut out. apparently it sounds like an earth problem. also my speedo, rev counter and engine temp gauge dont work. my battery is dead, would that be causing this?

id say it would be your alternator not charging mate check that there is power going to the alternator, run a live feed from the battery to the alternator and it should be ok, i had the same problem :y:

so if i put on a new alternator and battery it should sort out the dash and the engine not running right?

would the alternator make the engine cut out then?

no need to buy a new alternator as it will be the live feed to the alternator will have corroded, just run a wire from the battery to the alternator and see if it charges it should kick everything back in if that is the problem

so put a wire from the live on the battery to the bit with the bolt on the alternator?

yeah mate yeah , make sure its secure and not floppin about else you'll have a little fire on your hands! get the car started and idle it for a few minutes or go for a drive and it should cure it as it will charge the battery.

^^ my engine would start then cut out then not start at all for ages, immboiliser light was flashin n all sorts! never thought it would have been that but it sorted my problem

just so that you don't have to spend any money on the new alternator and new battery, just get a fully charged battery from your of friends or any one you know and fit it in your car and run it then and see what happens. a fully charged battery will last a long time with out the need of an alternator.
but normally when engines are just not running how they meant too, is normally a sensor. so you might need an diagnostic test. gd luck :)

yeah but then he will just have the same problem a few days down the line when the batery runs flat as i found out, probobly wont even need a new battery once it has recharged !!

well i have got a basicaly new alternator laying around so i will put that on and get a charged battery on there. if it still not running right i will try putting the live feed to the alternator. and if its still running like shit il bring it into work for a diagnostics test.
il have a go at it tomorow as im workin till 7pm today.

yeah i know that. the whole idea is so that he finds the fault first with out spending any money. what if its not the alternator then he will just waist his time ad money.

sorted now, got a new battery and alternator on and its fine. thanks for the help
