engine cuts @4500 rpm

iv got a problem with my vtr (1999 single plug ECU) at about 4500 rpm it cuts out completely as soon as i lift off or change up its ok. iv changed plugs and put new coilpack and air filter on it but didnt help. could it be the exhaust as it looks like the wrong exhaust, it looks too small? any ideas?

Sounds like it could be in safe mode. Is the orange ECU light on the dash on?

Doubt its the exhaust mate could be crank sensor, ICV, even the lembda sensor could be playing a problem best bet would be to put it on a diagnostic machine to see whats up...

like craig says it could be in safe mode. in which case disconnected the battery over night to reset it and maybe clear the problem. my old blacktop shut itself down into safe mode which was soo annoying when i was coming home from bournemout

Only reason I said about alternator is a friend has a vauxhaull van, can't go over like 4k revs otherwise alternator stops charging.

i know its not the alt its fully charging and i dont have any issues starting.

I have the airbag light flashing. but no ecu light?

going to try the battery trick tonight hopefully that will help.

does it pop and bang violently when you try get past 4.5k? Had this on a mates vts the other week, was the Crank sensor. Might have one spare if you need it.. send me a pm

if i keep my foot in it cuts out and kangeroos as it starts and stops.

what about if you do it in neutral and bring the revs up slowly?

i have the same problem mate, does ur ecu light come on when the engine cuts out then if u lift of the engine comes back on and light goes of ?

i tried accelerating slowly in 2nd hear up to 6000rpm and it was fine and didnt cut out so it must be something to do with accelerateing, i dont know what it could be ?

would it show up on the diagnosticks ?

hi mate i gave it some beans on the way home this morning and if you ease it up it goes to 6 grand ok. but it is cutting anywhere from 4grand up!!!!!!!! iv got a new crank sensor coming tomorrow so see if that cures it!!!

hopey yours sounds a fueling problem as when you boot it it dies so the mixture might be weak so when you boot it more air is sucked in and there not enough fuel in the mixture to ignite so cuts out.

try some stuff called catclean my beemer failed its mot miserably on emmisions after i put catclean in it passed no problem and ran really smoothly it cleans all the injectors and cat its great stuff.

my problem is deffinatly electrical as when it cuts it sudden and the techo drops back until it fires again.

took mine out tonite and it is cutting out at 4000rpm so must be the same thing, the mods i have on the car are strait throuhg exhaust from manifold and inductino kit.

think its going into safe mode dont know what could be casueing this, av used the redex stuff and thats cleened me injectors so i dont think thats the problem,

thinki im gonna have to take it to a garage as i carnt find out whats wrong with it :(
