the american site states that they are not for road use. In the uk they are fine. In some countries in Europe you are not able to modify the engines either.

When you buy a k&n they say "not for road use" on the box, Sweden is one for no mods i beleive.

You in other countries but its much harder. Such as lowering springs you have to get them approved which costs a lot. Kinda like a British standard. Or else it fails its MOT equivalent unless you get a dodgy one abroad.

It is illegal stop chatting shit, Invalid insurance is illegal as you are not coverd go to your local police station and ask them or even ring up your insurance company and ask them. They will tell you the same thing invalid insurance is ILLEGAL

yh but people come on here to learn and ask questions? I thought that was whole idea of the forum? And yes i know the in's and outs with insurance but how many people run de-cats? These are not road legal so therefore your insurance will be invalid because your car will not conform with EU regulations

Indeed i agree there alot of spanners on here that do give people shit about things and it can be intimidating at times but tbh at the end of the day its the internet your always going to get little w*nkers causing grief. But the way he has put it is to say because he got away with it means that its right which obviously it isnt.
And with the CATS if your engine is properly maintaned and running perfect there is actually no reason for you to run a CAT as the emissions will be correct and you would pass an MOT, but obviously alot of engine that are say 10 years old will not be in the best condition and obviously fail on emissions.
With my insurance i have declared that there is a 4-1 manifold and a straight through exhaust system on it and there was no complaints obviously apart from me having to pay extra :wall:

i beg to differ on your comment about the cats one there a legal requirement on any car manufactured after 1993 and a brand new car with the cat/cats removed will not pass and mot i speak about this from experience as i work in the motor trade (nvq3 level 3 technican) i have seen new cars with faulty cats/de-cats fail emissions. there on the veichle for a reason so that they meet the emissions requirements 4 the eu and if there didn't need them manufacturs would fit them as there are quite a costly part
smearsvtr
17th May 2009, 23:21
oh and de-cats are illegal and any ilegal modification will infact void your insurance as your veichle will be classed as not fit for road use by vosa (providing your car is manufactured after 1993)

so you would be happy to modify your car in a way that would totally fuck it? theres plenty replies on here from people that dont have a clue and have a wild guess, but could end in someone doing a huge bodge job to their car.

not at all pal all i'm trying to say is that the way some members reply is real rude maybe its because its on the internet and they feel big or summit but more then likely wouldn't dare speak 2 folk 2 there face like that. And tbh i dont tend to use this forum for advice that much theres alot more reliable sources on the net and i know and am quite friendly with a couple of local trusted tuners who have built some awesome cars and rally and have many years experience so i tend to turn to them for any advice on tuning and not to some young kid who's spent his time with his head in the demon tweeks catalogue

Haha, this threads comedy.
I remember when I wrote my old escort off when I was 18, full 60mm lowering kit, 17" alloys, cat back piper exhaust and piper cross air filter. None of it declared on insurance, the report came back (I paid £800 for the car), "after the assessment it appears there have been a lot of parts recently replaced, therefore we will be offering you the sum of £1250"
I couldnt believe my luck!

I see your talking about when you told two people to fit the head off a vts onto a vtr even though people had already told you that it cant be done.
There is no need to get so aggresive and take everything so personally about it all you do what you like you run your own life i couldnt give two shits. If everything i say to you upsets you then i wont comment on anything you post ever again.
And in response to your comment about you implying that my father paid for my car and insurance then your sadly mistaken i work full time and earn a good wage so pay for everything myself :y:

Ok this is just getting silly now to many people on this forum take everything to heart, you cannot tell how people are saying things on the internet if things look blunt or straight to the point then people think they are taking the piss or mocking them.
I am no longer going to post in this thread as its a waste of time you have your views and i have mine nobody's going to change that
bye bye
