View Full Version : Furio to VTS conversion
Yes, I have searched and I have found some answers but there are still questions that I need to ask :)
I'm looking into converting my Furio to a VTS..
I have around £2,000 to spend, my Furio engine only has 50,000 miles so really, I wouldn't want an S engine with many more than that..
Does it matter what year S engine I get? I know the wiring will be different but is it really a big deal?
Also, is there anyone local to me on here that will fit S engines for a good price or even supply them?
I've just stumbled across this on 106owners.. I know the mileage is high but.. any good? Does it contain everything needed for a conversion?
http://www.106owners.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=99793
Any help overall would be great as I don't know the first thing about conversions and what to avoid/look out for etc..
Thanks :y:
I was thinking about doing mine.
You need an engine with the same plug as yours. i.e. either 3 plug or simple plug.
And yeh get a lower milage than your orignal.
And if i were you with that budget id get it done profssinally which helps when you come to sell it.
Have a word with RickyRPM he may be able to get you an engine aswell :y:

Is there an easy way of finding out whether mine is 3 or single plug mate?
I don't really want to spend £2,000 on the full conversion like.. I am looking into cams etc aswell.. Is it alot more expensive to do it professionaly then?
Cheers.
Look at your ecu does it have three plugs or a big single one?
The engine needs to be the same :y:
You could do it yourself over the weekend if you had the tools/space. But when you come to sell the car you have the invoice which will help with the sale.
Tbh i dont know the price for the fitting but as around places will be cheaper than others.
The engine + auxilatres (everything of the conversion) will probably cost around £500 and maybe a couple hundred fitting.
The rest i would invest in disc rear beam and a predator ecu to get the most out of the engine

Ok cheers for your help mate :y: Will check the ECU out tomorrow.
Won't be getting a disc rear beam but will definatly be upgrading the front brakes. Yeah, thinking of cams and an uprated ecu etc.. don't really know whether to do it to a standard vts engine, or try and look for a cammed one for sale, a bit like the one above..
Tbh the upgrate to a 1.4 8v to a 1.6 16v is going to be huge.
I would get the lowest milage engine you can find. Then modify it
im just about do put mine in, 40k vts engine with everything was £500
Then 708 cams were 350
Either standalone or remap will be £500 abouts
Then oils filters fuel line, throttle cable, cam oil seals..... Add another £100
Cambelt £20
New clutch £70 Valeo
time/ labour for fitting it! maybe a few other bits....

Where did you get your S engine from mate?
Yeah, it is alot of money..
I would just go out and buy a VTS but I have spent so much on making my Furio look how I want and i'm happy with how it looks, I just want the VTS power!
How much are you getting charged for someone to fit?
Searched here, ebay etc for a while till the right one turned up! Just look around for cars breaking and ask what engine year/ mileage and price basically.
I was the same but wanted the project tbh. Plus insurance is a bit cheaper ;-)
Fitting doin it myself. Wont be anymore than £250 for u as williams VTS does it for that amount.
When i had my cams done i had the headgasket and valve stem seals done too. Aswell as skimming the head for a quaranteed fit and a bit more power. All that work cost £160 For cam fitting and timing too.

Ah nice one mate cheers. Yeah, heard about Williams VTS but he is completely the other end of the country so..
About insurance, is it cheaper? I heard it was slightly more expensive? Do you know exactly what to do/tell the insurance company? Like are there other documents that need changing like the V5 or anything?
Cheers.
Yer you have to alter the v5 to the new engine. Cause the vts is a different tax bracket
And yer the vtr with s engine in and mods works out similar to a standard s on my quotes. Letalone with same mods on aswell.
There are a few other on here, sparco tom iirc, gouldy 87 aswell, I think anyway.
If i were you idd put the engine in first n make sure its a runner.... then you can put the cams in and get it mapped properly.
What are your plans for the future? Are there any after cams, cause nows the time to decide if your camming.

Yeah, i'll look for a 2001 S engine then, with low mileage and the same plug ecu as mine.. Is it beneficial to by the full package in one go though? ie gearbox, loom, etc etc..
Thinking of camming and then predator ecu.. supersprint manifold and better brakes up front.
Hmm depends, It is easier thought, as things soon add up.
Sounds like a plan tbh m8ey. ive got 266 brakes they stop times better than the standards. Or u looking at 4 pot... etc
Try manic motors for the engine conversion price maybe? Could always drive up with everything in the boot.
i just got a 2000 vts engine with 65k with clutch, inlet, tb, manifold, radiator and hoses for £250.
shop around and put a wanted add up on here, bung it in your sid too that your looking, i did that and was offered an engine (and a hand fitting it if i need it!!!) within days
Right,
I have since found out that
1. My ECU is 3 plug
2. A mate of my dads can fit the engine for me
So is my best bet to look for a S engine with a 3 plug ecu and out of the same year car as mine or doesn't it matter?
Another thing, is after it's fitted, I will be looking into cams and the predator ecu.. Doesn't the predator ecu just replace the current ecu even if my current one was 3 plug?

Get an engine with a 3plug ecu as you will need the engine loom aswell which should be 3plug so it connects upto your interior loom. If you get a single plug engine and loom you will either need to cut and dice your loom to make it work or swop your interior loom for a single plug one.
IMO I would find a low milage 3plug engine, wiring loom and ecu that is by the far simplest and easiest way to do it IMO

get a newer jp4 engine from a c2, then get the saxo loom and ecu etc to convert onto it.

mate i would spend the money on a decent engine and fitting rather than cams, from going to 75bhp on your furio to 120 vts will be awesome get used to the power enjoy it and then cam it, i went froma 1.1 to a vts and it amazing... i would spend the money on a low miliage vts engine and fitting rather than a cammed s engine with a high miliage

Ok cheers for your help mate. So I basically need a VTS engine with a 3 plug ecu, as then it will be pretty much straight forward..
Does it matter what year the engine and 3 plug ecu are? Like can it be a later vts engine than my car and still be a straight forward fit?

Yeah, you've got it in a nutshell mate, that's exactly what i'm gunna do.. Get used to the 120bhp first, and then think about camming after. Definatly want to go for one with 50,000 miles or less if I can, as that's what I currently have and I don't really want one with more miles if I can help it :y:

Ah nice one mate, yeah that would be quality if you don't mind :)
Most of the ones on eBay have high mileage and looked pretty ragged, most of them have massive induction kits aswell so clearly are from written off boy racer's cars lol..
Yeah, i'll drop you a pm about FCS a bit closer to the time.
Thanks :y:

Yeah, have only heard good things about the bloke too..
Seems like a fair price..
As I said, my dads mate can fit for mates rates which is cool but it's just finding the right engine!
Cheers mate :)
im sure he'll help you source an engine as well even if he doesnt fit it. hes got a yard full of saxo's lol

May work out better to sell furio and used the money raised and the 2k to buy a late Vts!

Exactly my thoughts. Plus I dont think Ill declare it. Not advising this to anyone before you all become the police. Keeping mine looking like a vtr aswell. So a cammed/turbo charged (yet to decide) vts under the bonnet will make it into a little sleeper.

i get what your saying there but u have also go this that everything from wheels down to suspension and from seats down to ice will all fit directly on to a vts.
you have to think of the pros and cons of selling up and just buying a vts.
pros
loads cheaper insurance that a conversion
rear discs
abs
passanger airbag
and you could get a decent one for £2200
then whatever you sell your furio for can go onto modding that :).
cons
it will just be another vts not your furio but to be hounest you could always take off the vts badges and but furio ones on for a laff :)

You've got a point mate but..
1. White VTS's are like rocking horse shit to come by, and after owning a White Saxo, I can't see myself owning any other colour!
2. I heard insurance wasn't alot different? Some people have said it's cheaper having an S engine in a Furio or VTR rather than an S itself
3. Rear discs aren't a big deal, as long as I upgrade the front brakes
4. You never get what you have spent on your car really included in the sale, so whatever I could sell mine for, I would feel that i'd be losing out, big time!!
I get what your saying though :)
