Hello all...

I've had a search on the forum, and found a few images which have been helpful - but I need to ask a quickie....!

I'm trying to replace the alternator belt on my '98 VTS - I'm finding it a bit tricky.. (I'm trying to do this without taking the front wheel/liner off etc...)

I've slackened off the bolts above and below the tensioner pulley, and adjusted via the allen key adjuster bolt as far as it goes to move the tensioner...

However, I'm still finding that its almost impossible to fit the new belt around the crank, tensioner, alt pulleys still.

Have I adjusted the tensioner the correct way? I've turned the adjuster, moving the tensioner upwards (i.e. towards the bonnet) as far as the adjuster goes. There still seems not enough slack to get the belt around the alt.

Any suggestions/advive would be most welcomed...

Thanks in advance.

:)

Do it with the engine cold. The one I've got on mine will only just slid over the pulley when it's cold and not at all when hot! There is some variation in size between brands. The last one I had would go on easily hot or cold.

If you still have no joy, it is possible you have been given the wrong belt. However, if it is brand new then it will be a bit tighter than usual anyway.
