what's the cheapest was to improve acceleration?
Since I only have a 1.1 forte I know without spending thousands I can't do much.
I am going to get a K&N airfilter that should help

Strip it? costs nothing to do
you're better off getting a panel filter and try to make the piping as unrestrictive as poss
the k and n will sit behind your engine so will suck in loads of hot air. i had a piperx on my old one and it was shit.

its a 1.1, its never going to be fast.
save your monies for a better car

yeah that is what I am going to do but since I put new spark plugs and a fuel filter in it seems I have lost some acceleration.
I just thought there might be a way just to boost it a little.
So what you are saying jaybiss is the airfilter will do nothing to improve it

Noise would have been good though ;)
apart from make alot of noise, no it wont make a difference

See thats what I was confused about, I read somewhere that it keeps the engine cooler which increases performance.
Striping the car is not an option, I only own half the car with my girlfriend
heatsoak kills cone filters..
you want a panel filter, but that still wont make a difference tbh

Ok, So how can I improve my cars performance?
Right, does a aftermarket airfilter actually improve performance?
The simple answer is Yes, but depending on what one you go for will greatly change how much of a gain you will see!
A performance airfilter is made of higher quality material allowing for better filtration and airflow, the more air the more performace! Factory elements and pattern parts are made of cheaper materials design to do the job like the designers designed the car to perform to a low cost then thrown away, where as aftermarket filters are constructed of better materials and are designed to increase performance, hence being alittle more expensive.
The Golden rule of airfilters regardless of how much you spend is Colder the Better! Cold air is more dense so more air can be forced into the engine to be ignited with more fuel, ergo more performance.

what about a pipercross viper kit? You can get forced ones, the entrance to the tube sits somewhere at the front of your car with a little port and as you drive its forces the air in

That might be a bit much for me at the min, I got MOT and Tax due in the same month, I might try some Redex for now and see if that helps.

weight saving is your only option for a noticeable difference im afraid. unless you have lots of £££££££££££££££

Thats not an option.
Anyways this is only a 1.1 and I was never expecting to get the performance of a VTR/VTS I just thought there might be a way to increase acceleration just a little.

judging from my experience, it will make the performance worse. might felt boggy and slower than before. if you put your foot down it would splutter then go where as without it was fine.
a panel filter wont make much difference if any but is a far better option than a cone filter
maybe a full system with decat but then again you wont notice any difference except for noise.
if it was me, i would spend my money on suspension mods and go round corners quicker.

I would like to put a VTR engine in it, but like I said it's only half mine so I have to discuss with my missus and cus I want a VTR anyways she is happy with the way the car is (bloody woman)

stop abusing it then, just use it to get you around and driving experience.

to improve acceleration fit better brakes and sticky tyres
swampy

Classic line that kam!
Better brakes and sticky rubber wont improve acceleration!
What they wil help with is being able to brake later and carry more speed through corners.
This is called momentum not acceleration!

For the money you will spend you wont see that much of a gain to be honest..
Stripping it is probably your best bet if you cant afford the engine conversion as it will make it a little faster and it will feel a bit faster too due to more road noise and so on..
I've got a pugsport exhaust system, air filter, uprated brakes, wider wheels for more grip, compbrake shortshift and a few other bits on my 106 1.1 and its not really any faster than a standard one..

Sticky rubber stopping the wheels spinning aint realy an issue on a 1.1!
