i will be looking at doing the 16v conversion soon. now obviously the 106 gti engine is the same as the vts but are the ecu's the same. what i mean is are all pug ecu's single plug or do they have a change over to 3 plug like the sax? also i know this question is kinda in the wrong section but could i safely run my vts brake setup on the front and leave the drums on the rear when the conversion is in? or alternativly up grade the front brakes to gti'6 brakes or something to leave the rear end kinda still sleaper style. had a search for both questions but couldnt find a definate answer.

i believe its all the same apart from the looms

so i could buy a gti engine to fit the 1.1 aslong as i got the loom from a gti? what about the brakes? now i know the obvious thing todo would be fit a disc rear beam but id like to keep the drums so that it still looks like its a 1.4 or as most people know it a 1.1 with the kit.

As above, jus the looms are different. But i'm sure all Gti engines are all single plug ECU's as well.
As for the brakes I dont think you'd have a problem at all, it just shows how much the rear discs are overkill on the saxo when the exact same brakes are on the back of a 306 Gti-6.

leave the rear drums on. upgrade the fronts either to 266mm or 283mm disc and caliper set ups.
I think its around 70% of the braking is done at the front on a saxo so the rear brakes dont really need to be upgraded.
I myself and several other people i know have run 16v s1 rallyes, my 1.1 eastcoast rallye conversion, 1.4- vts conversions all using rear drums without problem

you could run a gti engine
you couldnt run the gti engine loom
the multi plug on a saxo and 106 differ (even if they have the same ecy type)
you could get a pug engine and vts loom (the pug ecu should run it still) but its just hassle and tbh its easier to just get a vts motor

ah right ok. thanks alex thats cleared that up. the reason i asked was there is a gti lump with similar mileage on ebay for 250.
