Standalone - mot map

RIght standalone soon enough I was wondering since it is easy enough to switch maps on the go I can have one normal full fat map and one map for the mot. ONly reason I wask is no need to run a cat then and change........

On my emerald it has an MOT function as such, you adjust the map, press enter a few times to get the emissions down get it through then exit without saving and it goes back to the original map :D

Ive not tried it yet though.

The cat might be an issue depending on how well you can get it set up

TBH - the MOT only tests emissions on idle IIRC, and fast idle (ie a bit of revs, but not under a decent load). So you can trim your idle to pass emissions and leave it like that from day to day (obviously depending on the cams - if they're too wild you'll still struggle).

Then just find out what revs the fast idle is done at, and trim the load points around there. Again - it won'y make much/any difference to road driving as its not really a point where you need it to have ignition/injection suited to make power.

mine has a 3 position switch wired in and a simple flick can go between 3 maps all saved on the ecu???

You *CANNOT* pass an MoT without a CAT.

It's quite simple - you can setup the Lambda output to 1 (14.7:1 AFR) and it'll pass the Lambda test, but it will have FAR TOO high PPM hydrocarbons....

...if you then lean it off to pass the hydrocarbons (which you can easily), then your lambda will rise to 1.2, thus failing the lambda test.

That's why the test is the way it is, having the lambda AND HC PPM in the test, otherwise people could easily fool it.

The K3 is the one with switchable maps, mine is upgradeable apparently (as was a late M3d) yet we are not sure if its fucked.

ive known cars to pass emmitions without a cat before now because it was still within the emmitions limit.

id just take it to an mot tester that will pass it regardless of emmitions so long as the rest of your car is all road legal.
