Firstly debated the section choice and ended up here.
I am searching ebay for an obd2 interface cable from car to laptop. the choice is endless. Im completly stuck as to what i need and should buy. Is there anything i need to know, or any information on them would be great.
Im looking to spend under £30 delivered. i have all the software already on my laptop, and have done for sometime. It's now time to put it to good use.
Any help as to what i should get would be greatly appreciated
looking to buy before i go to bed in the next hour so please help :)

if you've already got the software get one of the ELM327 ones.... most functionality.
be aware that they'll probably all be fake ELM327's at the cheaper end of the scale though... not that it matters much apart from some software will completely refuse to work with fakey ones.

i have found a few elm327's but they say 2001 onwards... ive got several 1999,1998 cars to plug into, will it work on earlier models?

as far as others have said... yours won't be compatible... not even sure if the ECU on your car is OBDII (which is what you need i think)....
pass... I don't know the answer to your question basically dude!
sorry!

mate i thing that 1 plug ecu is not OBD2 , it would be only OBD , and the 3 plug should be by law OBD2 because after the 2000 or 2001 year it was obligatoy.
look , what can you do with that cable? can you remap the car? or look for ecu info like erros or something like that? thank you very much.

you can by fake lexia datacables from china for about 200-300 quid. Diagnostics on the early saxos are crap though so personally i wouldnt bother.

i agree, i done a diagnostics at pug on my single plug, gave up no fault codes, but when i run the ignition cycle, you could see the TPS was only indicating half open and jumping to idle, on full throttle, the cheap ones are not so good, as it wouldnt have showed that fault up

A fair chunk of equipment, some pro solder gear and experience in using it, and ALOT of experience in map finding in hex, checksum correction etc using some fairly expensive software.
Unless you can confidently map standalone ecus already and have all the above i wouldn't even bother trying. It would be like diving into the deep end with sharks and razorblades in it.. :P

Pro solder gear - hot air rework station and a good quality temp controlled soldering iron.
No you cant get the software for free, iirc its around 800 euros... thats the main reason ive not looked into it much!
