Cant seem to get the oil filter off my mk2, im putting a 27mm socket on the top of it and pulling anti clock wise as hard as i can but the bastard just aint coming off
Is there something im doing wrong here? Do the little black clip things on the hex shape have anything to do with it?
Followed what it says in the haynes manual n it just aint workin
Need help urgently as I dont wanna leave the car without oil in!
Also soaked the bottom of the thing in WD40 n thats no help either
really starting to get sick of saxos tbh

I think the problem is that in my socket set, the large sockets instead of being hex have loads of groves inside them, and this is allowing it to spin under alot of force and eventually will round the nut... but if it wasnt on so bloody tight i dont think this would be a problem.

Someone has definetly done this up too tight tho, or it wouldnt even be spinning at all.

Tried a ring spanner or an adjustable wrench?
SteveWC

Tried an adjustable, got it on there really really tight as it wouldnt open wide enough anyway, had to force it on there and even that just spun when i put force on it :(
Dont have a ring spanner large enough unforunately, may have to go halfords again tomorow and spend yet another fiver on a single socket, pretty annoying ive been there n back 3 times now

Why the fuck did citroen use a plastic nut on the top of the thing anyway, that seems like a really stupid way of doing it :n:

Any chance I can hack the thing off as its plastic and replace the cover?

Given up on this. Venturing to halfords tomorow to try and find a 27mm purely hex socket. Just wondering my car will be fine over night without any oil in as long as the engine isnt started right?

Right, went n got a 27mm purely hex socket from halfords today, put it on the nut on top turned it with all my might and the little black clip thing inside the plastic hex broke off (both are now broken off) and the socket just keeps spinning on the plastic nut everytime i put force on.
Really starting to lose my rag with this thing, why the f**k is it not coming off!?
Ive tried all the basic, easy and sensible ways and its just not coming off, so what do people reccomend I do?
Can I hack it off with a saw and replace the plastic cover?

Tried heating it with a hair dryer for ages to losen the plastic, hasnt worked either, seems like i cant put enough force down on it coz it just keeps spinning due to the ridicuouls design of making the nut out of plastic?
Ive got the same problem described here

Really thinking about taking a hacksaw to it, is this a good idea or not?

Dont fucking do that!!!!!!
Edit: Heating wont work as it will expand the filter into the engine block, either take it to a garage or:

You need the propper tools. By sound of it, it's already half fucked so if I was you I would take it to the garage now mate.
Edit two: On another note gently hit it with a hammer a few times, this will crack any debris in the thread and could make it easier. DO NOT HIT IT HARD.

Already tried tapping it with the hammer mate and trust me it had enough WD40 on it lol
But fear not, got that fucker off thankfully! Took me and the sister's bf to get it off, had to smack a smaller socket it on it and get a wrench round the base, and turn both at the same time!
On my way to citroen to get a new filter housing now as well as this one is a little worse for wear!

Stupid cowboy mechanic whoever serviced it last time just did everything up way way too tight! :wall:
