Exhaust size

hi, i know this may already have been covered, but am contemplating on getting a 4 brach and decat pipe put onto my 1.4 westcoast. i am also adding an enclosed air filter.

the question i have is, i currently have a backbox on my car, and am wondering if the size of the exhaust, affects the power gains which will come from the 4 branch system when added??

here are a cupl of pics of the exhaust. i think that it is 4'' wide

p.s. could someone who has done this on a 1.4 engine(i understand that there might not be many) and if they seen any gains in bhp

Just the backox on its own, different sizes wont effect performance at all mate.

No, no matter what you do, a backbox will never really effect anything except sound and looks.
