need some advise: i can buy a cheap allready chiptuned ECU for my 1.4 VTS. would this be a wise thing to do? When you chip tune a ECU isnt it specific for the engine it's tuned with and also locked?

"chip" = No No, as they tend to have generic maps.

You want a remap, which will take into account all the mods you have made.

If you buy a ECU from someone elses car, it will be mapped for what mods they had, so wont suit your car aswell, and will probably need unlocking

And it isnt really worth a remap unless you have uprated cams.

No matter what anybody says in this thread, without seeing the actual map thats on the chip they cant comment.

Superchips make a living off selling "generic" chips etc. 99%of the chipped up 20vT engines are based on a generic map and are not mapped on the rollers etc.

I would say ask if you can test it, see if you notice any difference and check that it doesnt knock etc... half of the chipped ecus knocking about are standard inside anyway from what ive seen!

other question about chiptuning: what;s the different between a remap and chiptuning? Is a remap something like OBD-tuning(reprogram the ecu software) and is chip tuning adding a extra chip/powerbox?
