u could try some nitrous too. best thing about it is its cheap and u only use it when u need too. keep ur fuel consumption down too unlike a tubro or supercharger.

i personally think that nitrous is a waste of money for a 10 sec spurt smileys/smiley2.gif .cos if you want to run big power from nitrous then your gonna have to upgrade pistons etc smileys/smiley17.gif

Next thing you can do is strip and lighten everything!
Carbon bits, get rid of rear bench, carpet, rear door cards, parcel shelf, lightweight alloys such as Speedline or Compomotive's, go on a diet!
Other than that, your gonna have to move into the territory of throttle bodies or forced induction...or do an engine transplant and tune that.
Nitrous is a silly idea, and a waste of money IMO

Nitrous is a silly idea, and a waste of money IMO smileys/smiley5.gif why is nitruous oxide a waste of money and a silly idea. i have friends with cars that do 9 second quarters the would disagree with u on that.

31st December 2005, 19:12
What kind of cars do these "friends" drive to be getting 9 second quarter miles? most likely not a saxo.
Fuck paying £100 to refill the bottles every few weeks, I'd far rather pay the extra money for constant boost from a supercharger.
You need to match nitrous with fuel and also use a controller or else you wont get the most out of it, you need to ensure you have a metal head gasket and not the paper type and run cooler spark plugs. People who watch The Fast and The Furious really need to learn the facts of Nitrous Oxide before they go attaching it to their cars, beause unless you pay for all the extra's...your gonna end up with a fucked engine.
Ask anyone who knows anything about engines, they'll recommend a turbo/sc over nitro everytime.

mostly mustangs and camaros when i was living in canada but some smaller engined cars like golfs and civics. newer nitrous systems such as zex use the vehicle own lambda sensor and a computer to control the mixture when the nitrous is being used. all head gaskets use a steel ring to seal the combustion chamber and as for plugs u gotta change them every 15-20 thousand miles anyway. i have quite a bit of experience in the tuning field and think this could be a cost effective option to work with the mods he already has. turbo or supercharging with a high lift and duration cam means instead of using the cam to scavange more charge into the intake u are just blowing it out the exhaust.

oh and by the way the fast and the furious was crap...ive yet to see a "danger to manifold" come up on the screen while i was tuning with a standalone system.HAHA smileys/smiley4.gif

if you want a cost effective mod, then sell your vtr engine and fit a vts engine. you could buy one for the cost of a decent NO2 set up(never mind having to fill it up every few weeks and only having power in 10second bursts which is uber gay imo). with the vts you have 120@fly straight out the box and very good scope for further tuning. oh and my friend's pulsar ran an 11 sec quarter without NO2 which is hardly slow is it.

Stangs, Camaros, Golfs, Civics....
We're talking about a 1600cc 8 valve Saxo here.
Why waste money on nitrous when he could use the money to transplant an engine with already the same power, and more tuning capability of what he already has...?
Vts engine, with supercharger conversion - can be making 200+bhp - seems like a pretty one sided argument to me.
Anyway back to the subject at hand;
What cam and chip you running mate?
Heard good praise from Dastek unichips....! One of those with a new map might help

jeez whats rattled ur cage i was just making a sugestion to the fella. ok if u want more power then transplant a rolls royle merlin engine into ur vtr then seanvtr81 will be happy cause its #1 an engine swap #2 supercharged and #3 turbocharged. just dont do to many negative g turns as those pesky messerschmitts might get u with one of their gay 10 second bursts. smileys/smiley8.gif

on the subject of engine swaps has anyone ever tried fitting a mi16 engine in a saxo?
Sean
31st December 2005, 19:47
lol did you really just write 'nitrous' and 'cost effective' in the same sentence? what i'm saying was only my opinion, that an NO2 system will cost upwards of £600 plus the cost of refilling it. can easily pick up a vts engine for that and have the power ALL THE TIME. and ww2 planes did have NO2 actually smartarse, that's how it was discovered smileys/smiley14.gif

as far as i'm aware, no. been done in a 106 but too much cutting at chassis and bodywork. pug performance have done a gti-6 engine, but imo not worth it for the relatively small power gains for what you're paying, and the fact it'll fuck up the handling due to the engine's weight. smileys/happy.gif

Nothing has rattled our cages mate, these opinions are just simply what we beleive to be true.
We try to help people make the right choice, and have all the options laid out infront of them.
This has obviously turned into another thread hijack, if you need any other info on engine transplants etc - hit the Search button, or open another thread

costs me £40 to fill my 11lb bottle to the brim and lasts quite a while i got a wizards of nos kit cost me 225 quid and was a right bargain. nos is deffo worth it you can have all the fun in the world with it and it beats spendin £5000 on gettin a turbo with relivant parts fitted!
puts such a big grin on your face when a focus or a BMW go to come by you and you give it a squirt. they soon fckin back off!

got to say I agree that nos is a performance mod, its not an always on mod, but for track, or 1/4mile or for its cooling efficency its fantastic, great tool to have in your cabinet. Been looking into getting it on mine to help with cooling and top end stuff smileys/smiley4.gif
Downside is the filling up and running out, but if used wisely then its canny

i never said a 9 sec for a vdub or honda but heres the times for mostly sport compacts. guys i was racing against with my golf.toronto street racing (timeslips) (http://www.torontostreetracing.com/online/timeslips.php)i built my car with the help of Eurospeed one of the best vw tuners in north America and learned a lot from Jack who runs the place. Later i worked with Dave from Defconracing in Pickering, Ontario and with him built several 10 sec cars including his own 600+hp daily driven civic.
