i got a mk2 vtr if i changed it for a mk1 vts would the mk2 speedo still work ?
no, you'll need a mk2 loom and ecu, maybe a coilpack to match the loom too
edit- this is jst for ease of conversion, you can use a mk1 loom but it wont just plug in you'll have to splice the looms
if its an ealry mk2 vtr with single plug loom you can plug the mk1 vts loom in, other wise just swap the looms over on the engine to the current one.

I always thought the easy thing was to get the VTS upgrade that matches your current loom then it's effectively plug-and-play?

this isnt necesarily true, the early mk2 has a single plug ecu but it still has a large multiplug at the other end, so an early singple plug vts loom still wouldnt just plug straight in.
if it is an early mk2 vtr i have the exact loom and ecu you need ;)

keep it simple ad get the same year vts engine loom and ecu

would have thought by me saying single plug loom that a single plug would have been implied! ;)
yeah but not all single plug looms are the same.
ok we seem to be going around in circles for no reason. if i say single plug loom i mean one with a SINGLE """Plug""" not with the large three plug connection. that why i said SINGLE PLUG LOOM. Not single plug with three plug connection!
yeah, the early mk2 looms had a single plug where it goes into the ecu, but at the other end the multiplug where it plugs into the car loom is the big connection which is found on the later 3 plug type looms.
so if he has and early mk2 then a mk1 loom is still no good, despite them both having a single plug for the ecu they have completely different connections where they join the rest of the loom
o my life, read my posts! i said single plug with single plug connection(connection being the connection to interior loom) then the three plug connection being the bigger connection to the interior loom! read what i am saying
id ont get you? basically, a mk1 loom just wont fit a mk2 car. because all mk2s have the big multiplug even if they have a single plug ecu.
no they dont.
my mate had a xreg with single plug ecu and the small single plug connection
my vts loom is from the first of the mk2's and has a singple plug ecu and big plug, are vtr's not the same then?
come on there built with french logic. they would be different from different factorys or properly just different assembly lines.
i suppose so yeah. i thought the looms with big plugs were used on all mk2 cars, so theres my mistake!
either way, even using a big plug loom with singple plug ecu wont be a straight swap if he has a 3 plug vtr, it will plug in and the engine will fire and work but no dials work, and the fan wont wire up properly!
yea you need to stay with the same style loom but ignore the fact of mk1 or mk2 of car.
to conclude... stick to the same year as your car lol
could be the same year but differnt looms. you had early vtr with big plug and my mate had early with single:P
stick with same loom excatly, ignore verything as the cars are french!
