If i made my vtr so it has a ptw ratio of 200bhp/per tonne would it be faster than a civic type r? Even though the power would be much less than the civic 197bhp?

a tonne is 912kg so a Saxo is around 1 tonne... you prepared to pay to get 200bhp out of a VTR engine?
hard_corejoeboy

would cost around £3000-4000 maybe 5 actually. Be priceless to see the faces of merc bmw etc owners....

yes but 1000kgs's IS a metric tonne :y:
my car shuld be around 185bhp per tonne. and thats with minimal mods (16v)
a vtr turbo is more than capable of getting over 200bhp per tonne.
hard_corejoeboy
11th July 2009, 20:30
True but your average bmw owner won't even know what a furio is lol Yeah i was tempted by the vts conversion and a bit of lightness and a few engine mods...but turbo's do sound better

So technically your car should be quicker than the new renaultsport clio which has 166bhp/tonne

it most probably is. but its FAR from standard weight....
after 100mph for example the renault would be quicker where power comes into it...

question answerd below..
top speed doesnt mean much anyway imo, on a track you want better handling / acceleration,
the focus RS has a higher top speed than the megane r26.R, but the megane is better on track ;)

people dont understand how important weight is..
ashleyp made the point of the focus rs and mgane r26r and the megane came out on top even with 70bhp less...... it didnt do this by magic.
dan.... yes my car "should" be pretty hardcore once done.

VTRT kit will see you easily over 200/tonne
a tonne is 912kg so a Saxo is around 1 tonne... you prepared to pay to get 200bhp out of a VTR engine?
Just to clarify a tonne (with a ne on the end) is a metric measurement of mass/weight which is 1000kg
A ton (no ne on the end) is imperial so in this day and age is irrellivent)

Power to weight is only relevant to overcoming inersha.
Power is what overcomes drag be it air or mechanical.
Take two Saxos. One is 1000kg and has 100bhp. One is 500kg and has 50bhp. They both have 100bhp per tone but there not both the same speed.
Drag will over come the 50bhp way before it does 100bhp and in so the 100bhp car will be a lot faster if were talking top end speed.
Power to weight is more relevant at lower speeds and power to drag is more relevant at high speeds.
That was all very generalised though so don't read to much in to it.

The reason why the lighter car is better overall is that on most tracks you spend a majority of the time accelerating from slow speeds, braking from high speeds and going round corners, but there are a number of circuits that favour the bigger powered cars such as snetterton.
Small engined cars will accelerate nicely but as soon as they get to high speeds they cannot push through the air as well as a bigger engined car.

Alternatively, instead of spending 5k getting a paxo to silly power, spend a little to satisfy yourself for the time being, then use the rest to actually buy a decent car!
That's what I'm doing!
I realise my 206, even with it's 124bhp VTR engine, is a pile of poo and while acceleration is good enough, I'm looking more towards a car that's got a 0-60 of 5.1 seconds instead of 9....
hard_corejoeboy
15th July 2009, 14:05
Not a great many cars in our budget that can do 0-60 in 5-1 can handle that well though. I just find it annoying that can keep up with a krap m3 driver on country roads but on a straight he will get away want the win all the time lol and rubbing it in with the sax.
Just picture it 2 cocks in m3 with 2 birds in back. 1st cock says to 2nd cock look a that chav in his saxo watch this! Saxo then proceeds to leave m3 for dead. Tell me you wouldn't feel good seeing that!

You have just fell into the "i can keep with a m3 an back roads becuase i have a strutbrace and lowering springs yo" catargrey.
Also known as "the league of chav"
And at the end of the day the women in the m3 wouldnt be impressed with your little saxo that makes a psssh noise who races on the road, esp while shes sat in such a nicer car :homme:

Driving fast down tight backroads is often about who will take the biggest risk. As long as the M3 cannot stretch its legs down a straight, though saying that you only need about 180bhp to keep up with one.
Saying that, once you race, most roads are pretty boring...

I've 'lost' to hundreds of cars. I accept that by no means at all is my 206 at 124bhp going to outrun the higher market cars on the road.
I have no doubt in my mind that there are plenty out there that could quite easily raz past me if they so felt.
However, you just have to smile and bear it until you have enough money to buy a faster car, and as long as, when you go race your friend, you don't destroy anyone else's life when you write your car off, that's fine by me.

So you want to be chasing M3s? Will take more than just getting 200bhp per ton to do that in a straight line.
I was amazed at just how quick one was when it fucked off from us one day, in a 106 that would happily keep up with a lot of quick stuff.

I think its quite a complement to bmw that the e36 m3 which is on average a 12 yearold car is still used as the benchmark for a "fast" car.
Saying that i still dont think its somthing to celebrate that you can beat a standard road car on a dualy in your uber turbo hatchback ;)
As for losing races i got smoked buy a big boost starlet on a dualy not that long ago (coming down onto the carrageway) didnt bother me tbh id like to see him keep with me around Brands :clapping:
