right then
need some advice
i have a vtr with s1 rallye had and inlet manifold, with ph2 cam (same as ph3 280deg) raceland mani and supersprint zorst
the plan is to get a predator ecu, but i have to wait about 8 to 10 weeks untill andy gets the first of the single plug vtr ecu made
but i am finsihing off timing up my cam this weekend and going to put my vtr injectors back on as i think two of the rallye ones are broke, cause they didnt come up on the diagnostics
erm and if worst come to worse and it still ran shite cause it needs a remap soon, it means i dont think i can wait to get predator ecu as i need car to get to wrk as im relying on lifts atm which is shit lol so i would need to get a standalone pretty quick really and remap asap
i dont want to get standard ecu remapped though aswell so needs to be standalone
so was looking at options i was told the megasquirt is quite a good ecu to use it doesnt seem tooo badly priced either
and remap wise i will probs go to shenpar motorsport aswell need to speak to him about that though first
soo what are your opinions on the megasquirt ecu?
ive found one on ebay and it seems pretty good to me tbh what do you think?

would greatly appreciate your help guys
thanks

very good ecu's but good luck wiring it up. i know a few people who have just given up on the wiring loom in the end

ahhh right ok then
i am assuming they can be an absolute bitch then?
could they supply one specifically for saxo? it says on the add ring for enquires so was thinking of ringing to see if they do

iirc there was a company in belgium or somewhere that made megasquirt to saxo looms but they were very expensive.

ahhh right
if thats the case of them being very expensive then it would probs be a case of getting an omex 600 then and the adaptor loom then as they arent too bad to wire up
orrr a mate of mine said he could get the dta s40 and loom bits and pieces for about 500 i thinkit was
then i just need a remap

see what other info the guys can come up with, but unless you know your loom and can get a ecu/loom pinout diagram then i think you may have issues wiring the megasquirt

right ok then ill have a bit of a search then
thanks for your help so far lol
the annoying thing is alot of the ecus up for sale have been on 16v and mapped up to run them and wired to them
how hard would it be to get around that, could i still use one thats been on a 16v?
Sparco_Tom

you could use one from a 16v but before even trying to start the car with it you would need it clearing and resetting to 8v and mapped to recognise an 8v engine. would be costly.
its worth just waiting to find a preset 8v standalone of some description

yer spose
well this is the thing mate, its time, im going to try getting my engine timed up as best as i can this weekend and get fueling sorted as best as i can too
and im hoping it will be able to run okish for that 2 months untill the predator is done or i find a standalone for the 8v
but im just trying to find other options incase it doesnt run the best still, if you get me

Megasquirt wouldn't be too hard to wire up. Just take the megasquirt wiring diagram and could either make a whole new loom - or methodically cut up an old loom so it'll have a megasquirt plug on the end

Not all Megasquirt ECUs are the same. For example but one issue is some make not console the Saxo icv. There not exactly the worlds best ECU when it comes down to it.

I wouldnt get the micro squirt id go the megasquirt 2, this can control the standard stepper motor and is a better ecu, plus there cheaper.

A mate of mine has one on his vts turbo and has had nothing but trouble from it, i think he is on his third ecu from them.

Friend uses megasquirt on his tb'd corsa
Absolute bitch to set up and harder to find people to map it well. Cheaper though
He has gone for omex now and wonders why he didnt just do it in the first place

best thing to do with megasquirt is make a totally new loom, makes life alot easier... but then you need to know how to do this or know someone who does

what does megasquirt mean?
blackie_2k5
19th July 2009, 01:46
its a type of standalone mate, is basically the same as pred as mentioned but pred is plug and play to saxo loom, megasquirt isnt.. its a universal unit
