Hi guys, i have the oppurtunity of picking up a gti engine for 100quid... :S currently have a mk1 vtr engine running around 110bhp (power boost valve/mk2 gearbox/ph1 cam) etc etc BUT want to spend money getting it quicker...
I need to know:
1. Is it more feesable just whacking the vts engine in? - i have had 3 and like them! :)
2. What else will i need other than engine?
3. Please god dont tell me i have to re-wire the whole friggin car?! - my corsa 1.4 16v i converted with a 1.6 16v engine and didnt have to change any wires!!
4. How much will the other bits cost me??
THanks for your help guys...

You may need the loom spliced into the vtr loom.
Im actually thinking along the same lines there bud, seen jp4 lumps for sale online.
Gonna go for one when my vtr lump dies.
Im interested to know what is needed to do a convert.

See what im thinking, remembering my vts's is that i can plug in the vts ecu onto the current plug for all electrics then all engine wiring will obviously have to be changed and popped onto existing loom :S.... hmmmm
I really want to do this as i've got a saxo that looks beautiful but doesnt give me the pleasure to drive! :)

as long as its a mk1 vts single plug (and yours is a mk1 vtr single plug as per profile) it should be plug and play. You will need your ECU unlocking for it to run though.. pm me about that ;)

haha thanks dude! right i've got an engine lined up... ive just had a mk2 vtr gearbox put in... could i leave this in, apparantly loads of people do this?
so if i get:
1)Vts/Gti Engine
2)Loom for engine to single plug ecu
3)Unlocked single plug ecu
What else am i needing guys?

vtr gearboxes are poop. You want the vts one, or even a 1.1 as its loads shorter so quicker accelerating! If you wanted to save cash though you can use the mk2 gearbox no problems.

ahhh soo it would work, would the mk2 vtr box slow me down compared to the vts box..? i thought the 1.1s would only pull to like 110mph? lol

no matter what gearbox it starts to run out of puff at 100+, ive still done 120 odd on track though which is plenty imo!

lmao ok cool cool, i'll stick with the same gearbox for budget then! ha...
Sourced a 106 gti engine, but not got the loom and ecu looks shagged... only £100 quid... :S

would the jp4 engine be single plug or 3 plug?

not sure how an ecu can look shagged lol. The cases do tend to corrode quite well, and most of them are lacquered inside so protected even if water does get in over time.
£100 is dirt cheap, ide buy it for that much without thinking, even if its just to use the bits for a donor TU5JP4 conversion.

basically its opended up hanging out of the bay with no bonnet... ha...
But the engine was running 92k, some service history... would it go in on the vts ecu... or even the same ecu if it works? ha

3 plug, ME7.2.2.. drive by wire, linked to the BSI etc. Far far easier to stick the saxo vts management on it.

single plug 106gti and vts ecus are the same.

so £100 quid for the engine, and i'll give the ecu a go... now just got to source engine wiring.. ha! :) this is gonna be the cheapest conversion ever! :)

That still means changing the loom right?

raiya

Single plug has just a single scart like connector going into the ecu.
3 plug one has 3 lol
