has anyone used that super unleaded in their cars. I accidently put some in a few weeks ago and noticed the car feeling more responsive. i was worried a bit at first thinking it might damage the engine, but the hand book recomends to use the higher octance petrol to improve driving experience

it wont do anything bad to it, higher ron rating is better for the engine, lower is worse, but your car is designed to run on 95ron or higher.

the higher octane fuel may alow ur engine to run a bit more ignition advance giving some more power...with lower octane fuel the knock sensor sees the ping and backs off the timing.

ive always used cheap tesco petrol till i had the cams run in then once i got the feel of the car i started using shell optimax and noticed a slight increase in throttle response
for that few extra pence its well worth it plus its suppose to be better all round for the engine

plus its always the last petrol to run out when there is a petrol strike on cause no one wants to buy more expensive fuel lol

I just use morrisons petrol with my little miles card lol. Dunno why i use it, cos u need to put £400 of petrol in before u get a fiver back haha. Now mite be tempted to try a tank of that shell stuff.

i've only used Super Unleaded a couple of times & to be honest haven't noticed any difference. But a lot of people swear by Shell Optimax because its meant to clean up the engine bits as well. tempted myself but i don't have a Shell garage that close to me

i have to go out my way to get to a shell garage but its worth it

you have to run a few tanks of optimax through the engine in order for it to remove the old petrol from the tank, lines, injectors etc and then a noticable differance is found

the odd tank in between crappy fuels wont do a thing

just a few pence 91.5p i think it is

it helps your car run at the correct bhp

a friend has a zaff gsi turbo standard 200bhp did the usual stuff exhaust, dump valve, de cat etc got it on the rollers and was running at 201bhp ??????????????????

so started running it on optimax few weeks later running at 218bhp

I've been putting Optimax in my 51 unmodded VTR for the last couple of months & it does seem to be much happier - it doesn't "pink" any more like it did on ordinary Shell unleaded & it's much happier to sit at 30 in 5th whereas it used to grumble & prefer being in 4th. I'm convinced that it does make a difference & is worth the few extra pence - it's 91.9p round here, rather than 85.9p for unleaded. I think the fuel consuption is better but I've not worked out whether this offsets the extra cost though.

I don't trust the supermarket fuel round here at all.

I've heard that some manufacturers cars run better on BP Ultimate rather than Optimax and that this can make a huge difference? Any experiences with this with the Saxo?

Fuels are much of a muchness, the hand book suggests that for bets perfrmance 98ron fuel should be used... then take that citreon use total to develop there cars... do total do a 98ron fuel... hmm i think not! 97 is there high octane fuel... thats proberly y optimax is bets suited to the car as it is 98ron.... BP ultimate is 97ron but claims to have a more efficient burn & is better than ur average high octain fuel.

BP or Optimax i use if i can. or the cheapest fuel i will use is sainsburys high octain... very similar milage to optimax & bp.
