Few questions really as im a newbie to the saxo world

Firstly to let you all know. I have a Saxo mk2 VTR W reg that has been converted to a VTS engine by its previous owner .

I collected the car on tuesday all was good but now i think headgasket may have gone :( .

Car overheats very quickly , i have changed the thermostat from a 106gti onto my vts lump (i have a 106gti i am breaking so all parts available to me :) )

my questions are ?

1 ) Are the VTS and GTI lump the same as they look identical to me.

2) If they are then I will probably switch the whole lump as will be easier for me to do whole lot in one go .

3) my VTS lump has a 3plug ECU the 106gti lump has a 1plug ECU , how do i go about that ???

Many thanks in advance and anyone is the SW (devon area) feel free to gimme a hand :y:

Just change the headgasket? Much less hassle.

yeah it would be but my gearbox will need changing soon so thought i could just do the whole lot and steal the parts from my 106gti

they are the same engine.

3plugs have different sensors.

Better off getting a 3plug engine though.
But you can put a single plug head on a 3plug bottom end and it will work fine.

You sure its the headgasket, has it been chucking out blue smoke? oil in your coolant etc

well i think it could be early stages of it yeah not 100% sure though .

no blue smoke yet or oil in the coolant

but i dont see why it would overheat so quickly and suddenly too , and yeh the coolant level was about half way

you re bled the radiator properly?

Mine runs just under half way most the time, never goes over unless being abused on a track.

dont worry about the ecu, just swap the mechanical bits of your car and leave the existing sensors and ecu where it is! If you limit yourself to swapping the block and head everything will bolt on perfect.

Still.. ide rather do the headgasket though, not that expensive and least then you know its done.. rather than having hte new engine go pop in a few months or something

you can literally just swap the sensors and looms round

i did it to put a 3 plug vts lump in a 1 plug gti

well all sorted , was a big air block i had already bleed the system .

but i thought before i go stripping it down im gunna try once more thinking what harm can it do ?

well now it runs perfectly and sits at the half way mark all day long :D

fitted 106gti radiator and fan from that too as both are bigger than what was on the saxo

:D thanks for all the above comments :D
