Ok so i dont get shouted at by people on here i DID do a search, and i have read the guide on how to fit a 16V engine, but the problem i have is that my VTR is a 3 plug and the GTi engine i have is a single plug, Whats is needed to be done to the engine looms for it to work? I.E. everything work like fans and electric windows, I know i can get the engine running with just the 3 wires needed to start it but then nothing will work in the car!

Common sense from Reading the guides would tell you to get a 3 plug loom and unlocked Ecu ........

as above just get the correct ecu and loom for your year

well the ecu is unlocked already, so if i get a VTS 3 plug ecu and engine loom off say ebay how easy is it goin to be to just fit and run? I can also get the full car loom out of the 106, would fittin that not be easier than searching for a 3plug ecu and loom for a VTS? as i cant find one anywhere!!

Given the choice of fitting a new loom to an engine out of the car or refitting a diff interior loom - I feel it's a no brainer!!

right so the simple answer to that is i need a 3 plug VTS loom and ecu then for it to be easier and quicker?

Yes, unless you like fault finding with wiring

mmm not really, will the fact that the engine is a single plug matter? Will a 3 plug ecu and loom just clip straight into the GTi engine and then its just a case of sortin out the odds and sods with the wireing?

take it from someone who has tried the same, given up and bought a 3 plug loom and ecu. its far easier to start out with the correct loom for the job

you'll need to change the tps, temp sensor, injector loom, alternator, and change the oil sensor on the front because on the 3 plug that incorporates the knock sensor, and add a second lambda. easy...

mmmm bugger, mabye s?hould of tried to get a 3 plug engine then! Is it a hard job to do with a new loom though
LeeM

no, its not hard to change sensors and stuff especially with the engine out then it just bolts and plugs in

mmm right then, do you have a full list of what i need and what needs to be changed?

yep, what i listed above plus a 3 plug loom and ecu. once you start plugging the new loom into the engine it becomes obvious what needs changing really.
you're left with a sensor at the bottom of the back of the engine which wont have anything plugged into it when using the 3 plug loom. from what i can gather thats the knock sensor which is part of the new sensor you put in the front.
current alternator i think can be bodged but ive used one with the proper connection just to be sure
the tps, temp sensor and alternator can be taken from your vtr engine, and going from the plugs etc on it the injector loom can be too if you can break off the rubber its moulded in

Oh right cheers mate, I'll start trying to sort this out then! I ain't bought the engine yet so it's not all bad! Just was offered it cheap and thought it could be done!

if its cheap enough and you can get hold of the other bits then go for it, but to save hassle just get a 3 plug from the start!
