View Full Version : Westcoast more BHP

What kind of things should I be looking at to get more BHP out of my Westcoast? Im not up for just like wapping in a VTs engine or whatever Id like to be able to say my 1.4 can keep up with a VTR or whatever.
Im good with motorbikes but not really with car engines etc. The things I can do to my bike I cant to the car really.
Its completely standard enginewise so what kind of thing should I start off with to get more power?

Air Filter
Straight through exhaust
Manifold
Cams
Turbo?!?1
Use the search button this gets asked everyday

you can get an exhaust system plus enclosed filter but it will still be slow.
IMO, you dont buy a 1.4 for speed, and the easiest and cheapest way to get more power is to buy a vtr/s.
^^
know you didnt want to hear that, but its true

Yeh but i hear about these 1.4's with 100bhp+ and id rather have than than jus say i have a vtr/s. Just want it to be a bit nippier.

Also i searched but couldnt find much on Westcoasts. Wanted it more specific from someone who might of done it or anything?
How much bhp you gonna get from a decent air filter? Also whats all that remapping?
And on one of my bikes i had myself a "+30 bhp chip" it really wasnt a extra 30 but it gave it a bit more umph, these any good for the Saxo's?

The basis off adding power to any engines in the same tbh.
But as Mr_X said its is alot cheaper just to R/S a 1.4. Maybe wait a few years till yuo can afford the insurance :y:

Also my car was extremely cheap so dont mind spending a fair bit on the engine.

An ebay chip is shit on anything.
Youd have to spend alot to make over 100 on your westocast, though easy to make it as quick as a standard vtr, which not many are standard.

We do have the equiptment to do a engine swap but like I said I wouldnt mind been able to say like ooo my westy has so much bhp. No one in my area really tunes the engines on their saxo's tbh!
Ill have a look into making it a VTS but tbh id rather do that to something fun like a open scandal!
But thanks for the feedback :D

sense, this guy sees it.
chips, dont even bother.
Remap, only with mods such as cams.
Airfilter will give you two parts of fuck all tbh.
a full exhaust system mani/decat etc gave very good results on my vts.
i dont think may people mod 1.4's, anyhoo it will cost a lot of £££ for little power.
if you are going to spend money get an s engine or a s and get it upto 160 brake. WIN
edit: also i would plow money into brakes and suspension first, if you havent already

Just the usual breathing mods (good induction, performance exhaust with decat) fast road cams with remap, polished and ported throttle body etc.

ignore everyone saying go to VTS, if you want to mod a 1.4 then do it.
so can start from
induction
exhaust
then on to manifold and cams
throttle bodies
then use forged internals for wilder cams
or you can do a sersouis amount of internal work on the engine and go charged

With S1 rallye head.
Dont forget gearing aswell, get some better gearing and youll be moving further quicker.

:fcuk: I just wanted to be a bit diff than going with the whole just drop a VTS in it. My friend is selling a pipercross & k&n air filter and another friend just bought a sports exhaust system for £300 that he is selling so might start there.

not saying that, but why not start from the most powerful engine in the saxo 1st?
it would just make it cheaper for you, and get the most for your money. plus iirc there is more choice.

why mod a vts engine when you can get an evo and start off quicker.

Im not bothered about getting the engine mega tuned would just be cool having a 1.4 westy that could give it some beans lol!
When i want proper speed i go on my motorbike anyways :panic:
But now I have some ideas on this which is good, what would I be looking at with decent exhaust & airfilter as I mite get them this weekend. Mite also try a remap.

mate people spend loads on a vts, why not spend the money get welding done for a different more powerful engine?
if they are open iduction kits do not bother, want enclosed kits

induction the raceland is a good option, most enclosed are good. exhaust you have piper and supersprint being the main. there is no point on remap without cams or more work, waste of money

To be honest Iv been quite interested in puttin a 1000cc+ sports bike engine conversion in but my top end would be so low, acceleration would be good. Dont think my dad would be to keen to help out though.

Dont bother with a remap.
Youll get a gain of like 5bhp max, but the bhp of the car could be anything.
My westie standard RRd at 79.8
My mates was 82ish
someones on here i read was 72bhp with mods.
All engines are different.
But same basic gains.
thats not the same comparison.

Thats what i meant.
Well it is. A westocast is a different engine to the vts.
He wants poeple to be like woh that westcoast is quick! But
Aron

there is alot of variables to say top end would be slow. people have done bike engines in them, most popular is a busa engine, has better torque to cope with the high weight
Mochachino
5th August 2009, 21:32
I dont get why poeple are so bothered about top end.
How often do u go as fast as u can?
Most i drive up to is 90, honestly dont care after that.

5th August 2009, 21:39
Yeh I just want nippy acceleration, I never speed or anything so 70 max for me lol! I mite just stick aload of firework rockets in the back with the boot off, if i have to burn something off light em up and im away :P
im not to sure what bhp mine has atm to be honest

If i was you id do this in this order:
Exhaust
Induction
Manifold
Gearbox
S1 head, loom ecu
Cams (remap unless your doing boddies soon after)
Boddies
Internals lairy cam (remap)
Dont have to do the S1 head, u can miss that out

haha dads never help when you start getting more performance you get the old "you young boys......." then they walk off you could do the usal VTS drop for an instant 120bhp or you could mabye mod a 1.4 to around the VTS spec with a decent set of cams, manifold, decat pipe, exhaust system etc :) good luck mate :P
