View Full Version : VTS Rev Limit

I'm pretty sure that a vts' redline is at 7250
I was driving mine earlier and it carried on until 7500 where I changed gear as I didn't want to go any higher...
Is there any reason for it not to limit at 7250 as as far as I know the engine is completely standard apart from my full supersprint system and panel filter.
Cheers.

Not sure about that, I know VTEC Civics go to 8,500 revs iirc.
Why the hell were you changing gear at that revs anyway lol

Just testing my new engine out mate lol.. Wasn't speeding, was on a motorway slip road. Just curious as to why it didn't limit.. As I said, I didn't want to go any higher. Don't intend on putting my engine under silly pressure!

Tbh mate I wouldn't want to be doing that too often. Cant be healthy for the engine lol :y:
You might want to get that checked out? Could be a fault?

Oh don't worry mate. I don't intend on doing it often lol..
I mean, the rev limit is there for a reason, it is healthy to rev up to it.. Hence, I was checking to see if it was there and it just carried on! Just wondered if other people have had this etc..

Possible fault with the limiter?
If it was me id get it checked or even ask a mechanic just to make sure mate. :y:

oh and to be "on topic" the rev limit of a VTS is 7250
raunchz
9th August 2009, 07:33
could it be that when the ECU was unlocked the rev limit has either been removed? or is just very high?
Might be worth fitting one of those OMEX rev limiters as is nice for peace of mind to have a limiter!

So you're just backing up that you would have been daft to buy one? I lovew how you somehow believe you are by far superior to all saxo owners because you own a Citroen, Xsara. Seriously mate, at the end of the day you honestly need to get a life.
Perhaps toodle off to your xsara forum with your friends? If, of course other people with xsara's actually sit in front of a pc talking to other old men.

Toad
9th August 2009, 09:25
I think Gav just needs a BIG hug. :)
Don't worry mate, life does get better than this as you get older. I'm sure you'll sort it out.
Going back to the OP's comments... The limiter has nothing to do with the engine, it's set by the ECU. Standard setting is 7250rpm which has already been mentioned. With a standard engine, there's no need to rev the engine this high, as max BHP should be obtained roughly around 6600rpm. However, it won't do the engine any harm, that's why the limiter is there, to stop the engine going to an unsafe rpm.
If you want to look after your engine, make sure you give it regular oil changes, and use fully synthetic oil, preferably ester based types. Make sure all other regualr serviceable items are changes frequently, and then you can rev it high until your heart is content. :y:

Full of shit this thread.
Covered many a time ;)
limiter is 7250... but if your pushing the car hard in 1st 2nd 3rd sometimes it will rev all the way through, had mine right the way through the 7s.
Pointless rev'in that high, but sometimes on a track its easier/faster to not change gear as you will be dropping back down more or less straight away for a corner.
Straight lines etc i normally change around the 6800 mark, as i can feel the car drop out the power band after that.

9th August 2009, 10:13
the xsara vts only has a book 0-60 of 8secs, and 167bhp.
whereas a tb'd vts will be around this power figure, BUT a lot llighter so would eat it to 100 (all you'd really do with an S1 box) - so a 1*2 TB'd clio (200bhp+) would easily do a xsara vts, and would be into the distance when it came to the bends.
I'm not arguing, I'm trying to put across the facts.

I think you would find that your lil xsara wouldnt stand a chance against my VTS, and I dont have a black bonnet or a noisy exhaust.
Back on topic standard VTS revs to 7250, but sometimes the clock can be slightly out so indicates more than true.

I would deffinetly6 get it checked out mate or just rev it and if it dosnt limit by 8k then youve obviously gotr somthing wrong.
VTS-Gav-VTS which is a shit username to begin with and makes me think your the type of person who goes and buys shitty looking wheel trims, cause you can't afford alloy wheels, and still thinks neons are cool along with your lexus lights and BIG MASSIVE Stickers, tbh mate if your not gonna give the boy advice dont comment at all, simple enough, so i suggest you leave this forum, because your no use to anyone.

do you have a vts gearbox? it might rev more with another box on it like xsi or rallye
it will not rev more with a differnt gear box!!
the rev limiter is done by the ECU!
and anyway an XSI and rallye when on the XSI or rallye engines have lower rev limiters than a vts standard!
so that would not effect it one bit all contorl from the ecu.
You could have a fualt crank sensor which might be throwing it out at higher revs!
or someone play with the ecu you have on your engine!
