ive noticed that 1 of the connections has came off(the plug had been cut off and female spade crimps used), but had actualy snapped off the crimp, so im thinking this may have been causing me all these problems.

The TPS shares the same ground and 5v wire as the MAP sensor.
So if its one of these that is loose, then chances are you won't be getting a signal from the MAP sensor, and if its shorting out - the TPS signal will be wrong as well.
Goto the scrappies, get another MAP connector, with a good few inches of wires. Then cut off your one with loose/dodgy connections, and solder the new one in place - making sure its a good join and that you use heat shrink wrap or similar to avoid any bad connections.

The TPS as in crankshaft sensor?
As in the tps i believe, at the back of the throttlebody

TPS = Throttle Position Sensor
CPS = Crankshaft Position Sensor
IAT = Inlet Air Temp
ICV = Idle Control Valve

so a faulty map sensor or wiring to it could cause the car not to start, is this correct.

Could be one of the reasons, unfortunalty this kinda thing and dodgy idle can be one of many things on the j4 engine
