Does the engine itself actually run smooth? If so, one of your engine mounts has possibly gone.

doese the exhaust touch the body anywherer? how is the exhaust held to the car? does it only do it on idle or when you are driving aswell?

if it vibrates when engine running, maybe the engine mounts have had it. Get them checked out and replaced.

i have same thing engine in moving alot when idling this is one thing and when you rev the engine it make's a sound like a heat shield is not bolted down but can not find any think loose. could this be a broken gearbox as it dose this even when you drive it. you may ask why gearbox it's because it's a 1.4 box and was fitted on a drive and they were not sure on the state of it

how difficult is an engine mount to replace?

you might want to check if you have a flexi pipe on your exhaust setup, took my car to a local garage and they welded my exhaust but said that it will need a flexi pipe to stop the vibrations inside the car.
