Right guys thought i'de creat a new thread for this as hopeing to update as more software is tested and furhter testing is done also reveiws of the software and hopefully testing on diferent model ecu's etc to get an idea of what works and doesnt.

The set i'm useing is the ELM 323 baught from ebay and a serial to usb converter with apropriate drives installed.

The software i recieved with the unit was scantool and is a free program that can be found online so a few screen shots and reveiw to folow

ScanTool.net
http://www.scantool.net

The fault code reader is very simple press read and it loads up an saved faults in the top window with code and in some cases a description on what the fault is, also a quick google can clear up any unknown fault codes

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v647/Sunderz/OBD%20II/2.jpg

the following picks are the live sensor readings first one is a non running engine and the other are the first 2 paged of possible sensors it reads from and data shown

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v647/Sunderz/OBD%20II/6.jpg

this is a very simple and effectinve peice of software and can clear the codes on the ecu as well as read the faults and live data. not many features compared to paid for pakages but for a free peice of software good :y:

Digimoto Light
http://www.digimoto.com/

Another free peice of software and just as simple to use. It has some added features such as a dash board style revcounter and speedometer, same style code reader that can clear codes. It also has a grafical representation of the revs. this is only a 'light' version im thinking there will be alot more features in the paid version

the screen shots

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v647/Sunderz/OBD%20II/4-1.jpg

i think this is a better peice of software than scan tool but apart from looking cool and possible logging revs when driveing the graphs are pretty pointless along with the dashboard style display. :y::y:

Digimoto v. 4.03

right just ahd a quick chance to test this peice of software, compared to the light version it has alot more features from a dyno feature and 1/4 mile timer along with not just 1 graphical display but 4 with a choice of diferent values to log the screen shots show the graphs mainly with them set to basic sensors and went for a spin around the block.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v647/Sunderz/2-1.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v647/Sunderz/3-1.jpg

there are a few other peices of software tested but they were evaluation coppies and so spent more time saying dont register yet than i did useing the software and so bacame a pointless task

hope this help people in the software thats used and any question im more than happy to help ppl via pm or in this thread and will be updateing as when new software is tested and other modle saxo's, if there are people in the stafford area nad want the ecu checking, and also to help figure out was this is compatible with i'de be more than happy to do it for free and i'de suply a cuppa T or coffe too :drink:

regards

Good guide, well worth the time.
They're the two best pieces of freeware IMO.

Other software I found worked, is:

Dyno-Scan
OBD2Monitor
OBD - II Scanmaster Freeware
ScanXL
EasyOBDII

A few I found didn't:

wOBD
ve158
Acceleration_Timer

scanXL i found a pain to use along with all the palmer engineering software the two there are simple and effective straight to the point

Hi , Thanks for your info on the OBD2 software.

I'm thinking of buying an interface and software to suit my 2003 Saxo VTR.

Do you know which piece of hardware I should look out for , there's loads of different types on ebay.

I've seen some usb and bluetooth types, I presume they are easier than buying a serial port version and getting a usb converter ???

Cheers for the help in advance.

Scott.

the serial converter wasnt a problem at all and it's cheapre than sourceing a bluetooth adapter for the laptop or pc

it's on a y reg 3 plug ecu 1.1 not sure on 0-60's some might do it possible the parlmer motosport (think that right) software might but the demo is really bad but here software has loads and loads of features so might do
