From £200 you can get your ECU remapped. around 15% power increase and insurance companies will never find out because its software. It not that cheap but it does affect your insurance like other mods will

Yeah it's called strippage :D
Get rid of crap you don't need/want such as: Spare wheel and cage and tool kit, sound deadning, rear seats and belts, subs/amps/neons etc etc. Improves the car in every way possible (apart from perhaps road noise and practicality lol)
And it's free!

I thought it was 30bhp not 30%? It takes the 50bhp 1ltr to 80bhp. At least thats what the chip on ebay said :p

you didnt buy a chip off ebay did you??

Yeah sure they can ruin engine long term
Eldridge
24th August 2009, 22:00
all they do is make your ecu think there is more air going into it so the car burns more fuel so it actualy makes performance worse
edindude
24th August 2009, 22:03
i wont be getting one of them then
Eldridge
24th August 2009, 22:09
as these guys have said the best way to improve performance is to put your car on a diet!! every 10kg you lose is like adding 1BHP so say you manage to shave 50kg you get 5BHP more plus better stopping distances and handling and even fuel consumption!!

But obviously loose the practicality side of things, no seats, any of you guys with no spare tyre been caught without on when needed? lol
Kev_Vtec
24th August 2009, 22:21
yes but over striping my make the handling bad?
light rear end
Eldridge
24th August 2009, 22:22
i took my one out and never had a problem. i put this stuff called slime in my wheels though so i can always get home.

Whats that like seals a puncture for short amount of time?
Kev_Vtec
24th August 2009, 22:26
yes on a 1.1 is light at the front so it evens out but insome cases ie vtr vts with the big engine its makes it oversteer. what ever you loose from the rear you should take from the front. 50/50

Call me an idiot, but i reckon one of the cheapest and best performance oriented mods is a quick shift link.
http://www.griffiths-engineering.co.uk/
They are £20, easy to fit, undetectable as a mod (within reason) and actually work. Sure it won't give you more power, but it'll help you get your gears in quicker which kinda improves 'performance'... if you see what I mean :p

I got one a while back and I'm pleased with it.
It'll shorten the throw, but will make shifting more difficult if there is a lot of play/wear on the arm between the stick and the rest of the linkage.
Buy from GE direct, they sent mine really quick. Cost £25 delivered, took about 20 mins to fit.

The fact of saying stripping = more bhp is gay :homme:
Look at it as better power to weight ratio.
Best bet is to strip... but not half hearted...
