I seen one of those daft TV progs that explained it (something like Mythbusters or something) and its to do with the way the light reflects back off the dust so we see it as a particular colour. honestly.
Like pearlescent paint....

pearlescent fluff

iNot all belly button fluff is blue however. In the curious case of Australian hospital worker Graham Barker much of his fluff is red, even though he rarely wears the colour.

Mr Barker has been collecting his own navel fluff in jars every day since 1984. The achievement has won him a place in the Guinness Book of Records for the world's largest collection of navel lint.

lol. just found this (http://www.feargod.net/fluff.html). There are some very strange people out there

IIRC there was a thing on Brainiac on this and it is mostly blue as the most common boxer short colour is blue. The fibres from the boxers 'climb up' the belly hair so if you have a smooth belly you will get little or no fluff.

To prove this Jon Tickle wore red boxers and his fluff was red
