Just bought the car on 103,000 miles so expect maybe underlining health conditions haha . Anyway drove home i have not checked all levels yet water etc tbh. The temperature mostly says 3/4 and a tiny bit over 3/4 and then sometimes drops to halfway depends on how im driving. The fan kicks in and it does not get to the white line let alone red. It may even improve a bit when i change all the coolants and quick service.
First time owning a saxo though some people have told me this is quite normal temperature range for them. Can anyone confirm this ? It is a vtr 1999.
I also read someone say about a headgasket failure and a bubbling noise on start up.......... i get a weird noise by dashboard on startup but it kind of carries on until im actually driving. Anytime im still there is a kind of whining noise like a whiny belt or something i dunno.
And could someone tell me how hard the belt is on these i need to do cam change, are they easy to time up, my last change was on a punto 8v safe engine.

when i get a bit of time will check. Anyone else have any thoughts on this.... i dont know how serious to take it as several people said these cars tend to run hot, and i do know that even at 3/4 it is within operating range and not damaging the car. But obv half way would be nicer :) .

Coolant flush, check rad for leaks , damages etc. Check thermostat is opening properly, change the sensor, check pipes for blockages,
If your concerned for HG, take to a mechanic.

Couldnt have put it better myself
Just give it a bleed through with some anti-freeze and go from there, keeping your eye on the levels.

Ye I would have to agree that half way on the gauge is optimal for any Saxo, if you have a gurgling noise behind the dashboard then you have air in your coolant which means theres not enough coolant. If you leave your car for 10 minutes sitting with the engine running see how high your gauge is reading. On mine its usually about a quarter way up the scale.

My saxo VT 2000 runs at 3/4 all the time, never drops to 1/2.. never to full.. gets really high on the gauge when im doing 110+ but then drops again when i slow down.. i've had mine for about 6 months at this temperature.. seems normal

Like most people have said it does seem a bit high. Mine usually sits just below half most of the time unless im stopped or driving slow when it goes up just over half. Also if i cane it it'll go up a little lol

The water/bubbling sound in the dash is the water being pumped around, Could mean you have an air lock, I'd not run the Engine until you have that fixed!
