hi people! could anyone please explain how to smooth my airbox or post a link to a thread, ive tried searching but cant find one anywhere, cheers!

Common on VAG motors I believe, not so on 106/Saxos, maybe worth a look in by someone.

i dont realy understand it but people on here have mentioned smoothing the inside of your airbox 2 get better air flow to your engine???

works to get better bass responce ...
dont see why not in theory it wouldnt work... imo though, jsut drill it.

There's usually ridges, and casting marks inside the airbox, smoothing them means the air can flow better, which means you end up with better throttle response and possibly slightly more power.

what differances can i expect from drilling the airbox? might have a go tomorow, if it is worth ruining my airbox that is lol!

But no really on a Saxo any such mod will not gain you anything notable if at all. You can rip the hole thing off if you like and just use a bolt on air filter with cold air feed but even that will not give you much on a stock engine.

I did it to my old corsa, sounded nicer than a PiperX and it was free. Gives a nice gruntt :)

Change the ridged plastic airfeeds to Silicone hoses

Get inside the airbox and fill any creases/ridges to stop restriction.

how is a bigger throttle body/taper ported throttle body wasting my time also you dont polish the throttle body leave finished in 80 grit paper marks tried both ways polished and finished in 80 grit paper marks and the one finished in 80 grit paper marks was/is better that is on my engine now i run a 1800 cc throttle body taper ported to 50mm and inlet manifold lined up as well to match throttle body

Hows 4 inchs of smooth trottle body going to have an effect when the inside of the inlet manifold will have a rough surface. You say its "better"? Better in what way, do you have any graphs to back this up? You seem to have a real passion for 80 grit sand paper, why not set up a forum of like minded enthusiasts.

i Smoothed my standard airbox

while i had it off for around 2 weeks so i took a dremal to it i removed all the casting marks and rounded off the edge inside it i took abit off with a dremal but went though the plasticon the edges a few times filled the holes made with plastic shavings and plastic glue witch melts the plastic and made little gooey ball's to fill them with

and finished it off wet and drying the inside with 800 and 1200 removed about 5g's of plastic max but made it alot smoother inside

so it can be done easily but be prepare to put 2-4 hours into it to get it smooth as inside with wet and dry :) and it made no noticable difference :homme:

did you just remove the ribbs inside airbox also what is needed is to make the air inlet hole bigger

the head has been skimmed twice

but not alot else at the moment wanting to port and polish the tb looking at a centre pipe and a manifold to remove the cat

do you know why the inlet manifold has as you say a rough surface?
do i have graphs to back this up if the tuner had tuned my engine it would have either melted a piston or blown the engine why does this happen because the tuners only map the ecu at full throttle and do not map at part load,
You seem to have a real passion for 80 grit sand paper, this is so the 80 grit paper marks aid swirl and tumble into cylinder tried both ways(polishing and 80 grit finish on the inside of the inlet runners and my car lost power with polished inlet

ported airbox,flowed,tuned made a big difference on my engine and that was without porting,polishing piston crowns,combustion chambers,exhaust ports,skimming cylinder head also on a nearly stock 35mm throttle body

the standard air inlet hole on the front of the airbox was really really small must of been 25mm/30mm in inside diameter and also had all the heat exchanger mechanism in there as well = big restriction but now the inlet hole is 64mm side to side and 74mm top to bottom

Maybe you should which tuners if the one you are using only maps at full throttle.

so it is looking pretty useless this smoothing business then! it does look smart as though, oh and my airbox looks nothing like the one on the pics lol! mines the rounded cylinder type one

hey tried my airbox stock then as i modded it i know which i prefer

loads of work gone into them air boxes, fair play! credit where it due thats some top work!
