Hi Guys,

I Currently own a 2001 vtr (silvertop) with the current mods:
Raceland 4-2-1 Manifold
Decat
Supersprint Race Centre
Ashley 3" Comp Backbox
BMC CDA Airfilter

I was either looking into a 16v conversion or camming my 8v after a long thought im guna cam my 8v :D, what is the best cam to use i want something pretty wild cus im guna luk to map it up :) but i dnt want to get into bike carbs or bodies yet ;) Been looking at kent cams, newmans, catcams etc... want something like a PH3. What BHP will i be looking at with a wildish cam and a map and the relevant breathing mods.

Thanks

Paul

piper 285, im running the 270's, 285 would be wicked with a remap!

hard to say what bhp it will run as it depends on wear and tear.. and the mapping.. could be anything from 110 to 125ish..

Newman PH3 with a vernier pulley, set it to standard timing then have it adjusted on the rollers by a reputable tuner. Will see over 120bhp without a remap if they do a decent job.

If you go down the remap route, fit Piper uprated valve springs (reusing the original caps/ retainers) - this will allow the mapper to raise the rev limit. They run perfectly fine unmapped though - good power and smooth idle.

excellent thanks for the advice Lee, can u recommend anyone whos good at mappin who will do all this for me, i can fit the cam and pulley myself. Think i will get the PH3 Newmans then :) with a vernier pulley and piper uprated valve springs, should b more than ample power for me haha!

iirc from reading other R owners on here that have cammed their with your spec plus a 270 spec cam remapped made something like 115-120bhp. I woulld think 285 spec get a tad more if fuelling / timing and map is sorted out

Chipwizards if you want to keep the standard ECU. If you're going for an aftermarket ECU, the Predator might be worth a look.

Chipwizards if you want to keep the standalone ECU. If you're going for an aftermarket ECU, the Predator might be worth a look.

dont u mean if he wants to keep standard ecu?

Ive Cammed my 'R' and im happy with the results atm :)

Its got s1 Inlet, BlackTop Vtr Head, piper springs. Vernier Pully, 4901133 fast road cam, 4-1 Piper Manifold, Magnex Exhaust. Currently have my normal cat on it ( Know its pointless but ve not had chance to change it yet !)

Its Currently on 121bhp Without Remap, Waiting on the Single Plug Predator!

Be aware tho, If you do change from a silvertop head to a blacktop you will need to have your pistons potted otherwise you will not get the clearance and you wil have valve / pistons touching.
