Guys, my gearbox has been whining for a little while now, i've left it but as I was driving down to get some milk just now it made a terrible noise, like a screeching noise.

I thought right I bet just get it home, so as I was driving it sounded like it was trying to spark underneath? Like if you put live wire to live wire it'll make the sparking noise?

Had a little look underneath, could see oil leaking, could this be from the gearbox? It wasn't over heating as I was driving it home so I would generally assume it's from the gearbox?

As I popped the bonnet there was a bit of smoke I think, smelt like tarmac?

Any ideas guys? I feel like fucking crying. I've only owned it two months. :(

sounds like your clutch has had it mate!

Yeah, that was what my old man said. Still though, would that explain the oil?

sounds like the clutch, the oil could just be a gearbox oil seal burst and leaking or input shaft seal on the gearbox shagged and leaking

I'd agree with that, the gearbox has lost all its oil by the sounds of it and that would make it very noisy as its running dry. The oil has probably come in contact with the clutch plate and thats what is causing the smell and smoke, as the clutch gets very hot.
Oil on the clutch plate will ruin the clutch and cause slipping and overheating, so you need to get the gearbox off and inspect the damage.

Alternatively, the driveshaft oil seal may be leaking and the oil blowing onto the exhaust downpipe, causing smoke and smell, and the gearbox has now run nearly dry of oil.

start by checking and topping gbox oil, see if it still screeches

check clutch for feel of the pedal and bite point and juddering etc

if it still goes into gear no probs then ur clutch is proberly fine if it whines in all gears it could be the thrush bearin gone and its shifted the drive shaft outta place which would explain oil mate

Only gear which isn't great at going in is reverse, I think the clutch was on it's way out though... How easy is it to fit a VTS box aswell? Is it just straight in and go or do you have to do anything else?
